WEEKLY STORY - What’s to Love about September in Paris?

September has always been one of my favourite months of the year. But after moving to France, I love it even more. September is the time of La Rentrée, Journées européennes du patrimoine, glorious weather, and planning for the next year's worth of museum visits. What's not to love?

Happy Tuesday all!

WEEKLY STORY - 15e Arrondissement of Paris - Vaugirard

Our tour of the arrondissements takes its final stop in the left bank this week with a look at the 15e of Paris. This district is one of the largest in Paris, with the largest residential population of the city, but it is often overshadowed by the 7e and the Eiffel Tower to the north. However, the 15e is absolutely worth a visit, so click below to find out more.

WEEKLY STORY - 14e Arrondissement of Paris - Observatoire

Our tour of the arrondissements is back! This week we're continuing to work our way across the left bank with a look at the 14e arrondissement. This lively district was once the social centre of Paris and the beating heart of the city's artistic scene. Today, the 14e tends to be overlooked in favour of the 6e to the north. But it is still an incredible place to visit, filled with history, art, and science.

WEEKLY STORY - Grand Paris Express – A Massive Métro Expansion

I am very aware that I'm likely in the minority here, but I've always been fascinated by the logistics of moving people through a city. Which means that the next decade will be very exciting for people like me as the Grand Paris Express project slowly opens. What is the Grand Paris Express and why is it important? We are just over a year away from the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, which means the countdown to Paris 2024 is officially on! But that isn't to say that everything has been smooth sailing of late. Therefore, this week, I'm taking a look at the mixed bag of headlines that the Games have been generating in recent weeks. Both the good and the bad.

WEEKLY STORY - 12e Arrondissement of Paris - Reuilly

The 12e is a beautiful arrondissement, full of great restaurants, parks, and museums. But it was also my first home in Paris, so for that reason alone, it will always hold a special place in my heart.

WEEKLY STORY - The Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

I recently discovered that one of the seven Vatican-endorsed apparitions of the Virgin Mary actually appeared here in Paris. Of course, naturally I wanted to know more, so I paid a visit to the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. Regardless of what you believe, it's definitely worth a visit.

WEEKLY STORY - How To Stay Cool In Paris This Summer

The summer heat is officially upon us. Which means beating the heat has now become the national pastime here in Paris. This is a city that has many things, but an abundance of air conditioning is not one of them. If you're heading to Paris in the coming months, here are my top tips for how to stay cool this summer.

WEEKLY STORY - Musée Guimet: A Voyage Through Asian Art

This week's story is about another incredible but often overlooked museum, the Musée national des arts asiatiques - Guimet. It took me eight years to finally visit this museum, but it will be far less than that before I make a return visit!

Please note that there will be no weekly story next week, as I will be completely offline, and my technical skills aren't nearly good enough to automate everything just yet. But I'll be back the following week with more stories to share, rest assured!

WEEKLY STORY - Musée de l’Homme: Understanding Who We Are

The Musée de l'Homme may be one of the most overlooked museums in Paris. But it's also the one whose exhibitions I'm still thinking about months after my visit. The museum of humanity definitely tackles the hard questions, but that's just one of the many reasons why I love it.

Our tour of the arrondissements continues! And this week it's personal because we're talking about Opéra. Which means we're talking about the Opéra national de Paris and the magnificent architecture of Opera Garnier. Which means of course I talk about The Phantom of the Opera. My inner 12-year-old is so happy right now.

WEEKLY STORY - The French Do(Not) Protest Too Much

It's been a wild ride in French politics this past week. The fallout from last week's controversial move by the French government to push through pension reform continues, with protests and strikes showing no end in sight. And in light of this past week's events, I've come to realize just how accustomed I've become to them in the first place. It's been an enlightening week on many fronts.

WEEKLY STORY - Celebrating Valentine's Day in Paris

Paris is the City of Love. And so I know I was expecting a sea of red hearts down every street for my first Valentine's Day in France all those years ago. But like pretty much everything else in this country, the French do Valentine's Day somewhat differently. And I love it. See what I did there?

WEEKLY STORY - Paris’ 1er Arrondissement – Louvre

As promised, we're starting our tour of the arrondissements of Paris with the one right in the centre. The first arrondissement of Paris!

This district may be the least populated, but it's probably the most visited thanks to sites like the Musée du Louvre, Domaine national du Palais Royal, Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection, Eglise Saint-Eustache, Librairie Galignani, and Omusubi Gonbei Paris Palais-Royal.
