Architect Herman Schirmer created an imposing space with granite walls and Ionic columns. Schak Bull, cousin of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, who incidentally also designed his relative’s home, extended it in 1918. 💎⁠

Today, Grieg’s relatives, who extend a warm welcome to all guests and pride themselves on providing the highest standards of service and hospitality, manage the luxury boutique hotel. The Shangri-La chain can always be relied upon when it comes to the upmarket sector and its Tokyo property is no exception. Spanning the top 11 floors of a 37-storey skyscraper in the Marunouchi district, close to Tokyo Station, it’s as well located as it is luxurious. Dazzling chandeliers imported from the Czech Republic help to engender a sense of glamour and glitz, even in the elevator. Rooms are more understated but no less comfortable, boasting the ultimate luxury for the Japanese capital – space. Huge picture windows maximise the views over this densely packed city; watching the lights twinkle after dark is mesmerising. 💕

The 75 rooms and suites of the Corpo Santo are streamlined and elegant. A palette of neutral beiges and browns is enlivened with the traditional azulejo tiles whose patterns can be seen across Portugal. 💎

Rooms boast a private bathroom with a bath or shower and a seating area. The Porter Bistro, named after the British beer, is open to the street and ideal for indulging in a spot of people watching. 💎

The hotel is well situated within walking distance of Praça do Comércio, Lisbon’s famous square beside the River Tagus. The tram stops right outside and it’s also close to major bus routes should you wish to explore the Portuguese capital using public transport. 💎

This charming property takes its name from a tree-lined ravine close to the hotel. ✨

It’s thought to have been built in 1732 but was restored and converted into a luxury hotel in 1962. ✨

These days the hotel, which sits on the edge of the New Forest National Park, is a member of the prestigious Relais and Châteaux association. ✨

Rooms are well-appointed and some even lead out onto a croquet lawn. ✨

We love the Coach House suites which have their own semi-private walled gardens. Best of all is the spacious Marryat Suite with a wooden terrace that’s large enough to host a cocktail reception or dinner party should you wish to entertain. ✨

Dining options span both formal and casual spaces; traditional English afternoon tea is also a popular option.✨

You could be forgiven for thinking that the Waldorf Astoria’s Trianon Palace has been a part of the Versailles landscape for far longer than it actually has. ✨

Architect René Sergent paid a great deal of attention to its construction and ensured this fabulous hotel blended in with the architecture of the Royal palace. ✨

When it opened in 1910 it was nothing short of a triumph. Today, it’s lost nothing of its early glamour. In its well-appointed rooms, an elegant colour palette of soft greys is accentuated with rich mulberry or ochre accents. ✨

Public spaces feature black and white tiled floors, dazzling chandeliers and plush armchairs upholstered in olive green velvet. The crowning glory is a spacious heated indoor pool under a glass lantern roof, plus a Guerlain spa.✨

If it wasn’t for a forward-thinking vicar, the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof wouldn’t be the institution that it is today. ✨

He convinced local burghers to translate his vision of a luxurious hotel into reality and the hotel opened its doors in 1879. ✨

In the Zermatlantis Museum, which is located directly in front of the hotel, you can read what some of the hotel’s earliest guests have to say about the place and compare it to your own experience. ✨

The hotel is all about relaxation, whether that’s a long, lazy breakfast, a mug of decadent hot chocolate beside the fire in the How Do You Do Bar or a pampering session in the superior spa.✨
