🌾 The Tradition of the Wedding Cake: An Ancient Roman Magic! 🎂

Have you ever wondered where the custom of the wedding cake comes from? Its roots go back to Ancient Rome, where spelt, a grain rich in magical and religious significance, played a central role in the most solemn wedding ceremony: the Confarreatio.

This ceremony, introduced to Rome by Eastern peoples, sealed the indissoluble union between a man and a woman. The most significant moment? When the high priest offered a spelt cake to Jupiter. Husband and wife would share and eat it in the presence of witnesses, officially confirming their bond.

Thanks to the symbolic power of spelt, marriage carried a magical, legal, and social significance that made it unbreakable. And it is from this ancient spelt cake that the idea of the wedding cake was born! 🥰

Over time, with the rise of marriages of convenience during the Republican era, this ceremony fell out of use, but the magic of spelt lived on through the tradition of the wedding cake.
