Exciting news! We will be going on a Clia cruise conference in Amsterdam! On this trip we will view the latest river cruise ships- 11 of them! We will be learning about all the latest innovations in river cruising, whilst staying on separate ships to get an in depth feel for each one. Dreaming of those sunny relating summer family holidays? Where you have nothing to do other than maybe take a dip in the pool or the sea?
Right now we are getting so many enquiries for family beach holidays and I’m going to let you into a secret.
These enquiries are actually the hardest work of all. Complex itineraries and faraway destinations are often a piece of cake in comparison to the good old “fly and flop” closer to home.
Here’s why ….
1. We don’t pick the first suitable hotel we see. We have high standards. We try to match the right destinations, look for the most suitable rooms, transfers and the best flight times, adding in consumer and financial protection. There are literally millions of combinations.
2. The families I work with often have more specific needs for the rooms and hotels , sometimes restricted budgets and any inflationary increases tend to affect them the most. Perfection means more to them as it may be their only trip of the year. It can take hours to find the best options available and taking budget into account.
3. Despite the hard work put in, it’s often hard to get commitment due to the massive competition from other agents and online. Dealing with family enquiries are high risk for me when it comes to taking up time as any work and research can often be easily replicated and taken elsewhere or booked direct. We only get paid when you book and travel. Fact.
4. We do really love helping families travel. It’s one of the reasons we do what we do - opening the doors of the world for our younger generation and making them curious.
If you’re thinking about looking for your main holiday, here are my top tips:
A. Discuss all ideas with the family and agree on who is the main decision maker. Agree on what are the “must haves” and what are “nice to have”.
B. Check out the diary and school term dates and be honest with yourself about any flexibility you will accommodate

Today we arrived in Revelstoke to drop our daughter to her new job for the summer here up the mountain.

After a day at sea with a stop at the incredible Hubbard Glacier we stopped at Icy Strait Point. This is a private stop owed by NCL with the local indigenous tribes.
It’s set up for NCL cruises and two ships - Bliss and Jewel were there today.
Most people went off on some fabulous excursions - whale watching, bear watching etc - but as we have these planned on Vancouver Island we just got off and mooched around.
There are some nice gift shops and eateries, a great Orca statue and totem poles, but best of all was wandering the beach at low tide to see multiple star fish, crabs, urchins, and other sea life. Plus walking the nature train where we saw an eagle and his nest and a couple of deer
You could also take the cable car to the top of the mountain for a nice view.
Lovely stop - especially when the sun came out - and as we left there was a big pod of whales we saw surfacing!

Coming live from Norwegian Jewel in Alaska!! It’s almost midnight and it’s still daylight!!
Yesterday we had one of the best days out as a family we have ever had! With Major Marine Tours we took a 7.5 hour cruise around the Kenai Fiord park - and we saw EVERYTHING! Sea Otters, porpoises, seals, sea lions, humpback whales, black bears, puffins, an eagle, mountain goats, several incredible glaciers - and so much more!!
