Family recipes have been passed down for generations, and we celebrate this delicious treat with an annual Sonker Festival held the first Saturday in October since 1980. You, too, can experience this local delicacy via the Surry Sonk
er Trail. The Sonker Trail goes to eight places countywide. Seven of the stops serve this authentic Southern delicacy on their regular menu. An additional stop is a pottery studio that features sonker dishes for baking sonker, and also sells sonker cookbooks. The seven eateries include: two bakeries, a coffee shop, historic general store, hometown cafe, gourmet restaurant & an upscale casual steakhouse. Let us introduce your taste buds to something new. Along the way, you'll encounter several charming towns in the heart of NC's Yadkin Valley. Trail locations are within 35 minutes of each other in the following towns: Dobson, Elkin, Mount Airy, Pilot Mountain and the Village of Rockford.
