Do you remember when I painted this Plein air painting at Secret Slickrock over a year ago? I reworked it in the studio previously this year. It is now dry and ready for its forever home. I separated it from the lower half of the painting I had planned to be a part of it as a diptych. What do you think?

I just finished a series of six collage paintings. They are all created with acrylic and paper on paper, 11 x 8.5 inches. This was new technique I discovered when playing around with the first one. I was intrigued so embarked on a series. What do you think? Which is your favorite?

We sure are getting some good press on our show at the Camp Verde Community Library. I love it! This is in today's Camp Verde Journal. Tomorrow is our Meet the Artists reception. It's a beautiful, multi-dimensional showcasing our stunning local talent. It is the debut art show of the Camp Verde Artists. Shown in the article is one of Joshua O Smith's exquisite steel sculptures. I am grateful to all involved - the artists, the library, the superb library staff, Camp Verde Parks & Recreation and everyone else who has been instrumental in making this happen. 🙂💐

Come meet the artists on Thursday, April 25, 5-7 pm at the Camp Verde Community Library. The artists will introduce themselves at 5:30 pm. We're also having a Pop Up Art Show within the art show!!! We'll have additional items on sale just for the evening. The reception is being held during the bimonthly Music in the Stacks event. It will be a lively and inspiring event. Please mark your calendars with reminders. You don't want to miss it!!!

Refreshments will be served. The artists are making or bringing finger food to share. The library is providing coffee and water.

A recent painting. The city in the red rock mountain bustles with happy shoppers. Ladies in their big hats and fashionable attire walk the promenade as much to show off to one another as to acquire something of beauty. They stroll the cobblestone streets in joyous abandon. Everything their heart desires is in the city under the mountain.

I'm delighted to offer this class for people who want to learn the ins and outs of painting outside, plein air. It starts today at 2 pm.

The course consists of 4 weekly classes—either little or no homework. I'll teach you everything you need to set up and paint outdoors. A low fee of $98 for all four weeks. You supply your materials and gear. We discuss what you need during the first class.

Limited to 5 painters. Beginners welcome. The location in Camp Verde will be revealed upon registration.

Who's interested in learning how to paint Plein air? What day and time works best for you? It'll be held in Camp Verde.

You will learn how to set up, what to take with you. During the last session, we paint outside practicing your set up. This is your chance to learn everything you need to know so you can get out there by yourself!

The fee-based class happens in 4 weekly classes.

The 1st and 2nd week is one hour.
The 3rd and 4th weeks are two-hours.

The affordable, low fee is $98 for all four sessions. You supply your own materials and equipment.

A painting I did at Secret Slick Rock in Sedona. It's getting second life today as I work to refine it. The day I painted it, I had forgotten my mixing palette so I squeezed the paints directly onto the paper and mixed them on the painting as I went. The result is dark and intense. I wonder where it will end up after today's studio session with it?

I'm super excited about my new class offering - bringing Plein air painting for beginners to Camp Verde. The 4-week class begins this Saturday, March 2. I might change the beginning class to next week on March 9. What's your preference?

Have you been yearning to learn how to paint Plein air but didn't know where to start? It's a glorious experience to be out in nature painting, doing what you love, marrying two loves - nature and painting. It's also challenging. The logistics of what to take with you, how to pack light, what to take, what not to take, how to keep it all together while you're out there. This is a beginner's Plein air painting class.

I've been helping people paint Plein Air since 2017 through my business, Sedona Art Hikes. Now, I'd love to extend this invitation to my local Camp Verde community.

Would you like to learn how to paint outdoors? There's a lot of logistics to it, more to think about than painting inside your studio. It's a lot of moving parts. Oh, but the joys! And the challenges, 😅 which makes it all the more fun.

I've been taking folks to the red rocks in Sedona since 2017 to paint plein air via Sedona Art Hikes. It took me over a year to learn how to condense the process into something doable to teach others who have never painted before. Now, I'd love to teach my local community members how to take it outside.

Let me know in the comments below if this sounds interesting to you. If I see enough interest, I'll give it a go and give you more details. The class will take place in Camp Verde. I'd like to start a class in two weeks on a Saturday afternoon for four weeks - March 2 or March 9. I need to limit it to four people. Think and act fast if you want in.

Secret Slickrock Trail in Sedona is a wide expanse of slickrock with a gorgeous view of Cathedral Rock. As you can see, it's a favorite with photographers. I painted two small 5 x 7s from photos I took. One is sold, the other (shown here) I painted after the first one sold. It's for sale and available to anyone who might treasure a remembrance of Sedona.

I got out on the trail last night at Bell Rock Pathway. The light was gorgeous! But it doesn’t last long since the sun sets behind Castle Rock, overshadowing Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. It gets dark fast once that happens, so I had to pack up and high-tail it out of there. I took photos so I could finish it up in the studio. Have you been on this part of the trail? The yellow wildflowers are so lovely.

It was a lovely experience with Gwen and Diana communing with nature and their creative muses this morning. The river looked quite different than it did in June. They did a superb job.
