VISION
To be the leading provider and creative source for an embodied partner practice combining partner acrobatics and sh***ri. MISSION
To offer regular events (classes, workshops, retreats, meet-ups/jams) throughout the United States facilitating the co-creation of a safe, intimacy-enhancing, embodied partner practice combining partner acro, acrobatics, yoga, and sh***ri (Japanese rope bo***ge
). To build a community bringing together all of those who are serious about either acro or sh***ri or both, and are interested in deepening one practice through the serious study of the other. Ours is an edge/limit practice, and so the safety and well-being, both physical and psychological, of all participants, at all times, is our first priority. The nature of partner acrobatics and rope bo***ge is deeply intimate. All practice spaces shall be safe spaces where consent for all forms of touch is mandatory. Professional Instruction and Respect for the Arts
We respect the investment of self and resources that expert teachers have made in developing their expertise, and we commit ourselves to obtaining the highest level of professional instruction in the disciplines we are fusing (acrobatics, yoga, sh***ri). Dual commitment
The Acro Sh***ri Project aims at the cultivation and deepening of both “sides” of our practice - acrobatics/AcroYoga, and sh***ri. It is expected that all participants as well as all teachers are committed to continuously advancing both practices (whether in set roles of base/rigger and model/flyer, or in both roles in both practices), and demonstrate this commitment. Technique
Attention to detail is everything. All acrobatics and rope practice shall cultivate the highest level of technical adeptness possible. Acrobatics will emphasize alignment, proper form, and quality of movement. Rope work will aspire to proper tension, pattern symmetry, anatomically optimal rope placement, and clean wraps and knots. Connection
The essence of both partner acrobatics and sh***ri is the connection between the participants. All rope and partner acrobatics should be approached with sensitivity and mindfulness in the cultivation of that connection. Constructive communication, trust, and consent are the foundation of Acro Sh***ri practice. Acrobatics and rope are a language composed of movement and sensation. Beauty
Acrobatics is a performance art whose attraction derives in large part from its quality of movement. Sh***ri evolved in feudal Japan, where one of the four requirements that guided the development of early ties was that they must be beautiful. Acro Sh***ri, in combining these two disciplines, should embody high quality of movement and aesthetically pleasing body structure along with artful, visually appealing rope work. Accessibility
We believe that interest, ability, and opportunity to contribute to the development of Acro Sh***ri should not be solely dependent upon ability to pay. We aim to make our events and instruction available at a price that is broadly affordable, while respecting the value of the professional expertise, training, and time of our instructors.
