One of the best encounters with mountain gorillas at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest on our latest trip - every time you come across these guys the experience is unique and special. This little one was so relaxed and curious and gave the group copious opportunities to capture some great images - we got the whole experience captured in 360 video too with the aim of bringing a virtual reality experience to folks back home.

Can't wait to attend the Adventure Travel Film Festival in London this weekend.

Hoping to gather ideas and contacts to take part in a whole new type of Great Apeventure for 2018.

The working title is the 6 Peak Virunga Cyclo-Cross Challenge - bit of a mouthful to say but in a nutshell involves cycling between and climbing 6 of the 8 peaks in the Virunga Massif, the last home to the critically endangered mountain gorilla whilst raising money and awareness for Virunga National Park and the rangers who put their lives on the line to protect Africas oldest National Park.

Dates / costs to be confirmed but watch this space and get in touch if you think you're up for the challenge.

Looking for film makers, drone pilots, and general all round good eggs.

:)

Kafunjo Great Apeventure 2017

We've got an action packed 10 days ahead, following a similar itinerary to our last trip in November with the trip divided into a 5 day stay at the Kafunjo Community Project followed by a 5 day, great ape focused wildlife Safari. As always I'll do my best to keep you updated throughout the trip and remember if you want to join our next visit to Uganda then don't hesitate in getting in touch.

We are overjoyed to be meeting up with students from the Richard Lander School in Cornwall on the 21st of July so for a couple days we will be a labour force of around 25 people ready and willing to get stuck into any tasks required at our fledgling education project.

We've also accumulated some generous donations that we will be taking with us to assist Bruno Biryomumaisho with the development of the project - a special thanks to Sharon Harmeston who as always has proved herself to be one of the projects most reliable supporters. Sharon recently organised a Rock ' N' Roll dance event and raffle which has really helped us boost our reserves.

A MARATHON EFFORT TO PROTECT VIRUNGA.

Please support Emmanuel De Merode; the Director of Virunga National Park, and his efforts to raise 1 million pounds to support the continued conservation of what is Africa's oldest National Park.

Emmanuel will be running the 2017 London Marathon on April 23rd and hopes to use this opportunity to raise funds and awareness for Virunga, home to some of the last remaining critically endangered mountain gorillas on the planet.

Here at Great Apeventures, we are are hoping to offer expert led trips out to Virunga next year, where you'll get a chance to visit one of the worlds most jaw dropping wildlife spectacles against the backdrop of the stunning Virunga Massif.

As well as gorilla tracking, we are particularly excited to offer you the chance to ascend Mount Nyiragongo, one of the 2 active volcanoes in the Virungas Massif, where you can stare from the crater rim into a cauldron of molten lava!

Not a trip for the faint hearted, a truly once in a lifetime experience planned for 2018.

Get in touch for further details - and remember to support Emmanuel and his marathon fundraising goal!

Bonobos, chimpanzees, and gorillas are our closest living relatives, sharing about 98% of our DNA. But they’re also some of the most threatened by humans.
