Launch of Our Tokyo Architecture Small Group Tour!

From the beginning, our architecture tours have primarily been private. This approach allows us to cater to each guest’s unique interests, set a comfortable pace, and, most importantly, create meaningful connections. We also love shaping the experience alongside our guests, making each tour a unique and enjoyable journey, enriched by the experiences and insights our guests share.

I as a founder have always been dedicated to private tours because I wanted to avoid the typical scene of tourists crowding around a guide speaking loudly. Not only does it not look elegant, but it also makes it difficult to engage with each guest and ensure they’re truly enjoying the experience. I didn’t want our guests to spend their valuable time in that kind of environment. Instead, I prefer to keep things more personal, sharing Tokyo’s best-kept secrets as if guiding a close friend.

However, there was a challenge. Private tours tend to be more expensive, and there were people who wanted to explore Tokyo’s architecture but had to pass due to the cost. While our guides offer top-quality experiences, and we can’t provide our tours at a low price even for group tours, we started thinking about offering a more affordable option for solo travelers and couples.

As a team focused on private tours, we aim to make our group tours feel just as personal and intimate, with a maximum of six people. With fellow architecture lovers, conversations will naturally flow, and this shared passion could even spark new friendships along the way!

Happy New Year from all of us!🎍🌿

As 2024 unfolds, let's celebrate the dynamic architecture of Tokyo - structures that emerge and vanish in a blink, leaving lasting impressions. This year, we'll shine a spotlight on dwellings, exploring the evolving beauty of traditional Japanese architecture, crafted and recrafted by its residents.

Looking forward to another year of amazing architectural finds and good times with all of you!

The fourth capsule removal from the Nakagin Capsule Tower, which was demolished last year, has found a new home at the Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama. This has been one of the key goals of the Capsule Metabolism Project (former Nakagin Capsule Preservation Project).
Designed by Kisho Kurokawa, both the museum and the capsule are like siblings meeting for the first time! So far, one capsule has become a mobile trailer, two have transformed into galleries, and one has traveled to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Take care, newly connected siblings!

The fourth capsule removal from the iconic Nakagin Capsule Tower has a new residence at the Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama. Achieving this has been one of the key goals for the Capsule Metabolism Project. Both the museum and the tower share Kisho Kurokawa as their designer, making this a first-time meeting of architectural siblings! 😍
Our other capsules are also making their mark—one's mobile, two are galleries, and another's a star at SFMOMA!

"Tokyo's abundance of greenery is beyond imagination," is a phrase we often hear from our guests as we guide them through the city's architectural wonders.

It is said that the first roadside trees were planted in Ginza, Tokyo, during the late 1800s when Japan was undergoing Westernization. The famous ukiyo-e prints even capture the enchanting scenes of traditional cherry blossoms and autumn foliage lining the red brick streets. Ginza showcases delightful landscape design, where different stretches of roads offer diverse plantings, delighting passersby. Strolling along the streets, you will be greeted by unexpected forests spreading atop the rooftops of large shopping malls. Experience the harmonious blend of historical charm and natural landscapes. Let Ginza surprise and captivate you with its enchanting greenery at every turn.

📍Hotel Indigo Karuizawa, Nagano

Karuizawa is a popular mountain resort town in Japan, known for its beautiful natural surroundings, hot springs, and outdoor activities.
Each Hotel Indigo property is uniquely designed to reflect the culture, history, and character of its surroundings. The design of their hotels often includes local artwork, murals, and furnishings that capture the essence of the location.

I love the playfulness in their hotel design, and the one in Karuizawa didn’t disappoint me!
The hotel was able to successfully incorporate the charm and character of the Karuizawa area into its design.

The sunlight, the blue sky, the refreshing feeling of being in a birch forest, and the sense of transparency will likely make a wedding ceremony here something that can be remembered for a long time. 🔔

“What you always have to think about when designing ‘human scale’ project is, how you can interfere as little as possible with the existing environment, to create a space that expands as much as possible”
- Tadao Ando

Tadao Ando's architecture is truly fascinating due to the dramatic differences between the exterior and interior. Although the exterior is captivating enough, the interior reveals something completely unexpected. There are subtle angles and cuts in the walls and ceilings, the perfect amount of light, and tricks to make even small spaces feel spacious, all cleverly incorporated.
