The cathedral of the city of Ljubljana, in which the headquarters of the Ljubljana Diocese is located, is the most important Baroque church in Ljubljana. The site where it stands was originally occupied by a Romanesque basilica from the 13th century and was built in 1701 after the first basilica was burnt down by the Turks. It boasts exceptional wall paintings and other artistic heritage.

Starting tomorrow, organ grinders dressed in historical clothing will be conjuring up an atmosphere of times long gone. 🎵 The barrel organ, commonly known as a simple instrument used by 19th century buskers travelling from village to village, cannot be played as automatically as it may seem and is much more interesting than it appears at first sight. One more reason to check them out, right? 🙂

GREENHINT | Have you seen any smaller holiday trees while exploring Ljubljana? Although temporarily adopted for festive decorations, they will be responsibly uprooted and replanted in nature after the celebrations. 🌲

[Tudi narava potrebuje mir]

Sprehajalci, lastniki psov in vsi, ki svoj prosti čas preživljamo v naravi, bomo v obdobju nizkih temperatur 🌬 in prisotne snežne odeje ❄️ za prostoživeče živali največ koristnega naredili tako, da bomo zmanjšali motnje ter živalim omogočili, da varčujejo z energijo.

Lastnike psov zato pozivamo, naj bodo njihovi ljubljenčki vedno na povodcih in ne tekajo prosto po naravi, saj se za razliko od prostoživečih živali vsakodnevno vrnejo v topel dom.

V takšnih razmerah namreč za neugoden razplet zadošča že bežanje pred radovednostjo spuščenih psov. Za enkraten hiter pobeg lahko 🦌 porabijo energijo, ki jim sicer zadošča za več dni normalnega gibanja. Ker je iskanje hrane v trenutnih razmerah oteženo, izgubljeno energijo s težavo nadomestijo, zato lažje postanejo plen, ali pa oslabijo in poginejo.

Pri obiskovanju narave bodimo zato v teh dneh še posebej obzirni in spoštljivi. 💙

This week is all about St. Nicholas. The festively decorated stalls at St. Nicholas fair already offer various goods suitable for traditional St. Nicholas gifts. Tomorrow, St. Nicholas will descend into town, where his entourage awaits.

Along with a pack of demons and a choir of angels handing out pastries, fruit, and sweets to children, he will then walk through the city centre. Traditionally, the angels give gifts to good children while the demons scare those who have been bad.
