Celeste Stuhring grew up on the coast of California, graduating from Ventura College and UCLA with a degree in nursing. In 1982, she moved near Seattle, Washington after spending 18 months traveling the world, pulling in inspiration from cross-cultural art, her love of the ocean, and one of her favorite places of travel, Mexico. Since early childhood, she has always had a passion for working with
mediums that allow her to express her creative and whimsical nature, and in 2000, Fused Glass by Celeste was established.
“Glass is a celebration of light and color that brings joy to my life. The glass fusing process is a wonderful combination of art and science. The process continues to challenge me where I am constantly growing in this medium and discovering new techniques. Glass, in a solid state, is similar to a liquid. When light transmits rays through translucent glass it reminds me of water and it is reflected in my work.”
Spending 25 years as a Neonatal Nurse Specialist, Stuhring sought a way to channel the stress, from her field, into a creative outlet. Glass fusing soon became her hobby that filled an artistic void and that promoted relaxation and self-expression: “I find it completely absorbing to be involved in the process of glass fusing.” In January of 2015, she retired from nursing and started working on her glass full-time. Stuhring has studied with well-renowned glass artists of the craft including: Bill Ayers, Richard LaLonde, Gil Reynolds, Patty Gray, Avery Anderson, Jane Persico, Shirley Webster, Melody Higgins, and Deb Crowley. In addition to her studies, she frequently attends national glass art workshops to draw inspiration and to learn the most cutting-edge techniques. Her work has been featured in Collage Gallery (Kirkland, Washington), the Kirkland Artist Studio Tour, Musings (Mill Creek, Washington), as well as in Blooming Hearts (Snohomish, Washington), and can currently be found in MaJe Gallery (Edmonds, Washington). Stuhring offers a wide variety of fused glass art – including but not limited to – candle votives, olive oil bottles, wine glasses and charms, dishware, lawn art, jewelry, masks, ornaments, personal saying magnets, lamps and sconces, and seasonal items, as well as functional and decorative home accent pieces. Her art has a whimsical feel, filled with a lot of heart and personality. Her pieces often include these themes: Northwest, Ocean, Wine, Positive and Motivational Quotes, Hispanic, Native American Tribal, Nature, and much more! Some of her newer art includes 12th Man Jewelry, 12th Man Lawn Art, and 12th Man Wine Glasses. You can also find a wide selection of Christmas Ornaments that are sure to charm any person, young or old! All of Stuhring’s glass art is handcrafted and unique, sourcing steel from a local steel artist, and made with the highest quality glass. Dichroic glass, gold foil, frit, and hand painting with glass are often added in extraordinary combinations that transmit light and reflect a variety of colorful, one-of-a-kind pieces. Currently, her studio is located near Brier, Washington. Her son has also joined her in creating wonderful pieces, where no two are alike, keeping the business in the family, and bringing Celeste’s visions to life.
