Deemon Performance The latest motorcycle news, Tuning tips and secrets on motorcycles, now featuring Triumph Speed Twin To release the potential certain tweaks are required.

I have been adjusting and tuning Motorcycles off and on for 40 years. In the Philippines, I have owned several BAJAJ Rousers including a 220 and a 180, and a 200NS, and now moving to fuel injection with a Yamaha MT07. One thing I noticed with Rousers is, from the factory they come all choked up to comply with emissions and fuel consumption requirements. There is no need to open the engine and do r

adical changes which may shorten the life of your motor. Simple carb re-jetting, installing a carb open air filter, and a Kal Kal style open exhaust(or open pipe if you prefer) are enough. The trick is to balance the system to match the intake pressures to the exhaust pressures. Through months of experimenting on my own bikes, I have developed a system that works, and increases performance on an average of 11-15% (HP).Your top speed will not change, you will just get there more quickly. I use a Kal Kal style pipe to preserve the stock looks and to give a controllable mellow sound, no need for super loud un-baffled pipes. In addition I repainted the entire exhaust system with silicone high heat paint to keep the heat in the pipe not on the outside. After a ride you can put your hand on the exhaust canister. Simply hanging a free flow air filter on your carb is not enough. Constant velocity Carburetors require "still" air, undisturbed by drafts. I specially modified the stock air box to create an open flow, but protect the intake from side drafts to extract maximum performance. In addition the carb is overhauled and re jetted. new pilot jets and main jets are installed and the needle valve is shimmed up. This give extra power through the whole throttle range, idle to wide open. Just adjusting the A/F screw does nothing except affect the first 1/8 to 1/4 throttle position. A carb has several circuits which affect different throttle positions. Rejetting is the only way to unlock this power. The final touch is to add Denso iridium spark plugs for instant and total fuel burn. There are many other things you could do, but this system is my technique for a simple and safe performance boost with out throwing mega Pesos at your bike for a negligible result.

I installed a foot peg relocation kit from Hitchcock's in the UK that makes it so that you don't hit the foot pegs so easily when trying to move the bike around with your feet, adjusted the bearing tension on the triple tree at the front steering so that it doesn't have the head shake and jittery handlebars that the stock bike has. In addition, I have added shims (preload) to the front suspension to balance the suspension front and back and it alleviates a lot of the problems of stock forks have when going over potholes and makes it handle much better.
