Penumbral of Blood Mood Lunar Eclipse from Palau

On March 14th Friday night there was Orakiruu, a Full Moon. Not only was it a full moon it was also a lunar eclipse blood moon.

This Global event is where the moon appeared to turn red as Earth passed directly between it and the sun in what’s known as a total lunar eclipse. Their perfect alignment darkens the moon, from the perspective of earthlings looking up, because our planet’s position blocks most sunlight from reaching it.

Some light still makes its way to the moons surface, but only some shades with longer wavelengths like red, orange and yellow; hence the name Blood Moon.

In Palau we would be able to see the Penumbral of the Lunar Eclipse, although there was cloud coverage upon the moon rise. This is one of the final phases of the eclipse. The moment when the eclipse reaches its greatest magnitude or size while the entire moon is above the horizon in Palau. The true maximum point of this eclipse and blood moon couldn’t be seen in Palau since the moon is below the horizon at that time. Despite not being able to see the red tones from Palau, it was still a beauty to see the moon rise on the horizon and bring light to the night.

Crocs on the Rocks! 🐊 Salties do not have the best reputation amongst wildlife enthusiasts. Often marked as a creature who attacks and eats humans. Many try to avoid them such as snorkelers, kayakers, and even fisherman, but not Bill from the Ponderosa Pine Forest! Although from the mountains Bill has deep respect and care for these reptiles! He was able to see five individual crocs in one day around the rock islands! Bill still has all his limbs, fingers, and toes attached to him 😊

The Palau Giant Gecko (Gehyra sp) is a freakishly large nocturnal lizard which feeds on insects and reptiles. By day they like to hide in the axils of palm leaves emerging at night to terrorize their prey. Locally known as Malaitemudes, they are most unpopular with Palauan women and home owners despite keeping the homes free of cockroaches and spiders. 🦎🌴🫶🏽
