Been a lot happening since our last post. Spent time with Courtney's family over Xmas and New year, then over to the North Island of NZ for a 3 week holiday. Spent a week in the South Island visiting family and friends before heading back to Australia to hit the road again. Headed north up the east coast of Qld slowly getting ready for the sugar season again. A 6 week stop over in Mackay, farm sitting a chicken farm while the owners went on holidays. We also picked up jobs working for Bridgestone Mining Solutions. Courtney in logistics and Trevor in the warehouse moving tyres and loading onto trucks. A great team to work for.
And sadly we now continue our journey without our precious little Summa. She has been travelling with us since we started, 9yrs ago. Her ashes now with us along with Riley's ashes. R.I.P

We have been busy working in Far North Qld but both got a weekend off to do some exploring. So up to the Daintree we went. What an amazing part of the country it is, so it's on the list to come back to and spend more time at.

Inside the harvester while picking up the Almonds. Can get loud inside sometimes.

Inside the cab of the bank-out. The seat, steering wheel and side console all rotate 180 degrees so it can be driven backwards when facing forwards!

Almond Harvest - Step 5 - The Bank-out or Chaser. Once the harvester trailer is full this machine reverses up to the trailer and unloads it.

Almond Harvest - Step 4 - The Harvester or Pick-Up. This Mad Max looking machine picks up the clean rows and puts the almonds into a trailer that it tows behind. Once full the bank-out or chaser reverses up to the trailer and unloads it.

Almond Harvest - Step 3 - The Conditioner. This machine picks up the swept rows and removes sticks, debris and dirt and puts the almonds back down into a clean row.

Almond Harvest - Step 2 - The Sweeper. This post apocalyptic looking machine sweeps the fallen almonds into rows.

Almond Harvest - Step 1- The Shaker. This machine does what it's name suggests.....it shakes! A good operator can shake 2000 trees a day.

February saw us heading to the Riverland area of South Australia. The Murray River had been in flood and receeding so it was interesting to see just how high it got.

After a bit of sightseeing it was onto a new job for us to have a go at - Almond Harvest. We were located about 10mins over the SA border in Victoria. The almond orchard was a lot different for us after working in wide open, empty paddocks. So many machines are required to get the almonds from the tree to the storage bunker and then the almonds still have to get to the processing facility! We will put up some videos next to show the machines in action.

After finishing harvest in January we had a few days to explore the Yorke Peninsula before heading to the Barossa area to catch up with some friends and check out a few wineries.
