My favourite ever river cruise has to be the Nile

Start your adventure in Cairo and visit the Pyramids (please do go inside, you won’t regret it), the Egyptian Museum and have a barter at the Khan El Khalili bazaar.

Then its a short flight to Luxor where you embark your ship. Itineraries are usually for 7 nights and you will spend your days visiting epic places like Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings and Edfu in the morning, before having a relaxing day onboard your floating hotel watching the Nile and the life it supports, drift past.

Endless stretches of dramatic coastline, the chance to see the Big Five and its aquatic equivalent - whales, sharks, dolphins, seals and African penguins - South Africa is an incredible experience.

The first thing I do when planning a trip away is make sure that ‘Auntie Sarah’ who looks after him whilst we are away is available.
