Volunteer by skill vs volunteer by experience? There’s been some confusion! I often forget how alien hostel exchanges are for those who have just discovered it. A re-occurring question I get is “I saw a hostel is looking for a photographer. I’m not a photographer but I’d still like to volunteer with them, is that possible?”

The answer is YES ✅

Think of it as a bonus! If you have the skill the hostel is looking for it will help your chances of being selected. BUT your willingness to get stuck in and your experience volunteering is the most important thing. So don’t be afraid to apply if your skills don’t match.
