To My Family, Friends, and Fellow Americans:
Happy Independence Day to all. Each year, I post the Declaration of Independence (see link at bottom of page), and encourage everyone to read it. We live free and enjoy the benefits of being citizens of the greatest country in the world, however, as with the results of our last election, “We the People” were able to let those, who we elected to represent us, know that we were not happy with our leaders, both political parties, and the media.
Many years ago, I registered as an Independent, due to my belief that both political parties no longer represented the best interests of America. They, like the King of England, represent their own political interests, the interests of lobbyists and their powerful supporters, enacted laws and regulations that restrict our freedoms, rights, and opportunities, and cause division among us by politicizing issues to a point that promotes an us vs them agenda, to further their power. Our founding Fathers we so very wise when they wrote: “When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature’s God entitled them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation”.
Please take the time today to read our Declaration of Independence and pay close attention to the facts submitted to the King of England to support the declaration. Most of the facts from 1776 are the same today, when you compare how the absolute power of our government, and specifically our political parties who essentially are the government, have failed to represent the best interests of the citizens who entrusted them to do so. Yes, man (men and women, just to be politically correct) has free will and individual beliefs. However, too many of us have allowed our political leaders and the media to shape our beliefs and feelings, to fit what they want us to believe and feel. Remember, our country was founded because “We the People” had suffered from the corruption of absolute power and our founders were brilliant enough to create a Constitution that could withstand the test of time, if the citizenry kept the government and its elected representatives from screwing it up. Well, they have been screwing it up for many years and the result has been a fierce push back from those in power to again allow “We the People” to get our power back. Fortunately, our founders put checks and balances throughout our government, especially the right to vote, for or against those leaders who represent us.
I’m sure that most of you are tired of being manipulated into being angry, taking a position on an issue that you never even considered an issue, being told you are a bigot/racist/homophobic/anti-immigrant/Nazi/gun lover/bible thumper/intolerant/uneducated/woman hater/conspiracy theorist/climate denier/ or any other insulting, broadly sweeping stereotype if you don’t agree, support, or take sides, with a minority of influence peddlers (politicians and the media) that expect you to be who they demand you be. Turn off the news for a month and guess what? You will be less stressed and nothing will have changed in the world. Yes, most of the news if fake or pseudo news, not necessarily because a story is false, but more so because it is misleading and is focused on influencing you to support their spin on the story. They choose what they want you to hear and there are very few true journalists or media outlets who are objective and tell a story without bias. Be a free thinker but be skeptical of who is feeding you information. Us simple, middle of America folk, aren’t as stupid as our political leaders and the media make us out to be, as the last election, “wake-up call”, to Republicans, Democrats, and the media, demonstrated.
Enjoy and appreciate this day as an American, because this is your country. Be fair, reasonable, respectful, and diligent in defending and maintaining what our founding Fathers created for us. Most of all, be happy that you are part of something very special, The United States of America!
