Hawaii 2022 complete! After 3 long years, we had the best relaxing time with our dear friends Tim and Sherry.
We managed to check off a new adventure riding ATV's! The boys were able to do a day snorkel trip with KonaStyle. (( the girls chillaxed at condo (vertigo and boats wasn't a good idea for me this trip) thx sherry for hanging back with me))
We found a new sweet beach spot for snorkeling from shore and the guys were thrilled with all the underwater fish and turtles they could see.
We were also lucky enough to be on island for King Kamehameha Day. A great parade after a two year Covid hiatus. We were able to snag one of the best seats in the house from one of our regular eat joints formerly "Splashers" and now under new ownership named "Big Kahuna Beach Grill".
We enjoyed watching the young Hawaiians compete in Outrigger races. You could tell they were well trained and disciplined for competition.
A day drive to the South end of island gave us some great water views and the best meal we had on island at what we call a "hole in the wall" little bar/ restaurant. South Side Shaka Restaurant and Bar.
We attempted to get pizza at our favorite Kona Brewing Company but the ovens were down so we ended up at another hang out Huggos on the Rocks and yep, their oven was out too. So it ended up being a burger/ salad night.
Several days were spent chilling at the pool and enjoying home cooked meals. We planned well and only ate out minimally.
Many businesses in Hawaii have "help wanted" signs. It's a shame because so many businesses are still struggling to get back on their feet. (Unemployment in Hawaii was extended for another 18 months so that's not likely to resolve itself anytime soon). So the few times we did go out we tipped well showing our appreciation to those who chose to work.
It was evident the island definitely suffered losses due to the lack of tourism. Several businesses were closed as well as a couple of very large hotels. We are hopeful that they all recover well.
Because....... we will see it all again in 2024! Aloha!
