[TOKYO] "We have recently seen unprecedented development and innovation in infrastructure technologies supporting communications, transportation, environment, and energy. This suggests that we need to rework and transform this sort of urban infrastructure from a new perspective. In addition, quality of life and ambience are now defined based on comprehensive lifestyle, making the underlying creative industries such as art and design more important than ever." http://icf.academyhills.com/english/index.html

''Many of today's booming cities are expanding, which is exacerbating urban challenges. But it need not be so. City planners must focus on smart design, public transport, and creating new opportunities for walking and cycling. Urban communities – and the environment – are depending on it.''

[BERLIN] A great project and exhibition that showcases innovative “smart city” projects from South-East Asia: buildings, planning, urban interventions, initiatives and visions for the future from internationally known experts as well as young architects from Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam, who are making the cities more intelligent, effective and above all improving the quality of life for their citizens. Beyond that, the results of the student workshops, which Aedes initiated in Phnom Penh, Jakarta and Manila to generate the future city visions of the upcoming generation, are shown. - More at http://aedes-arc.de/sixcms/detail.php?template=det_aedes_ausstellung_artikel_2007&id=7065777

[East African Cities] ANZA, the new East African architecture publication, is working on the third edition of the magazine – ‘My City' Discovering East Africa’s Metropolises. Focusing on cities like Kampala, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Kigali and Bujumbura, this issue aims to discover the specific systems of organisation in the city and will examine how these metropolises influence their inhabitants and vice versa.

ANZA is seeking contributions for issue 3. Contributors are requested to explore the various aspects of the cities. Possible areas of focus may include transport systems (road network and conditions), types and styles of a city’s buildings, the lifestyle of people in terms of social life and business, utilities and services (for example water and electricity), street life or how past, present and future show in the cities.

The team is looking for a wide range of contributions, text as well as images (including photographs, sketches, instructions etc.).
