Asian nation, Thailand boasts of owning World’s Biggest Crocodile Farms. If you’re wondering why anyone would raise scaly-animals, think again. Tourists flock in numbers to catch a glimpse of giant crocodiles lounging in the hot sun chomping on chicken heads. Apart from the visitors’ attraction in zoos, the reptiles also make way to slaughterhouses and tanneries to produce luxury products.

Sri Ayuthaya Crocodile Farm is one of Thailand’s biggest and has been operating for 35 years. “We’re an all-in-one farm, creating jobs for the people, creating income for the country,” said Wichian Rueangnet, the owner of Sri Ayuthaya, which has an estimated 150,000 crocodiles. Sri Ayuthaya is registered with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), allowing it to legally export products made from the critically endangered Siamese freshwater crocodile, including to top buyer China.

Wat Niwet Thammaprawat

Wat Niwet Thammaprawat is most intriguing because it's the only Neo-Gothic monastery in Thailand and is located on an island in the Chao Phraya River opposite the Bang Pa In Palace near Ayutthaya.

Access is gained through a cable car strung across the river and manned by the monks from the temple.
In 1878, King Rama V ordered the construction of Wat Niwet Thammaprawat in the same architectural style of a Western cathedral. The building and its decorations are of Neo-Gothic style with beautified stained glass windows.

The base, where the principal image of Buddha and his followers are placed, was designed to resemble the one for the cross in a Christian church and not a traditional Chukkachi base. The Buddha image is called Phra Buddha Naruemol Thammophas and is covered with gold.

On the Ubosot wall in front of the principal Buddha image, there is an image of King Rama V created in the stained glass. The window frames were especially made for curved windows.

Situated to the right of the Ubosot is Ho Phra Khanthararat, a shrine where Phra Khanthararat is in the posture of requesting rain.

Outside the front entrance there is an unusual sundial which has the gnomon at a very acute angle from the horizontal because Ayutthaya is only fourteen degrees North of the Equator.

Thailand's Ancient Modern Kingdom | The Mark Of Empire | Ayutthaya

The city of Ayutthaya was the capital of a mighty empire that once controlled large parts of Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. A cosmopolitan centre of over a million residents, it was one of the wealthiest cities in the eastern hemisphere, and even compared to Paris.

Host Peter Lee travels through Thailand to explore the secrets of how this empire grew to be powerful. From ancient crypts that depict its growth as a trading nation, to elephants and a unique martial art used in battles to defend the kingdom, Peter explores how Ayutthaya grew into a prosperous trading hub, that attracted merchants from all over the world from Japan in the east to Great Britain in the west. So much so that foreign influences of Ayutthaya’s golden age still lingers in Thailand’s culinary traditions.

𝐖𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦, 𝐀𝐲𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐲𝐚, Thailand

One of the most impressive ancient temples in Ayutthaya, Wat Chaiwatthanaram was established in 1630 A.D. during the reign of King Prasatthong. There are a number of different theories for why the temple was built.
Some believe that the king constructed the monastery in order to make-merit for his mother although another theory suggests that it was built to mark the king’s victory over Angkor (Cambodia).
Whatever the reason, the Khmer-style buildings still remain a striking sight for modern-day visitors to Ayutthaya.

🥣 *Bua-Loi* are sweet glutinous rice-dumplings boiled and served with sweet coconut milk..🥥 While the can be coloured with assorted vegetables and flowers, such as pumpkin for yellow and butterfly-pea for purple, a more luxurious version of this includes sweet poached eggs, and that is when this dessert is called in thai: ‘Bua Loi Khai Wan,’

📍 This peaceful, shady complex doesn’t seem to draw quite the same crowds as others, despite being one of ’s most impressive wats! (or temple) the tall central prang is splendid, with smaller stupas around, the Khmer style structures are in a good state of repair, and it’s the perfect spot to sit back and relax on the grass, taking in all the surrounding sights and sounds. One of the most impressive and most popular sites to visit in , this is also known as ’’The Grand Palace,’’ It doesn’t officially open until 8am, however there is a hidden entrance on the northern side of the wall that is likely to be open. We actually spotted it after seeing some stray dogs run from one side of the wall to the other and followed them through the small tunnel to see for ourselves! We wandered around for a bit in the early morning solitude, our only company the dogs and a passing monk who was using the same sneaky entrance as us.

📸: Thanks to for this amazing photo.
