Tikal

Tikal is the ruins of an ancient city found in a rainforest in Guatemala. Ambrosio Tut, a gum-sapper, reported the ruins to a La Gaceta, a Guatemalan newspaper, which named the site Tikal. The Berlin Academy of Sciences’ Magazine then republished the report in 1853. Archeologists and treasure hunters then began visiting the forest. Today tourism to the site may help protect the rainforest. It is one of the largest archaeological sites and urban centers of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization. It is located in the archaeological region of the Petén Basin in what is now northern Guatemala. Situated in the department of El Petén, the site is part of Guatemala's Tikal National Park and in 1979 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Cave Tubing What began as a sport by local kids using old motor vehicle inner tubes to float down the smaller rivers in Belize has become a national pass time and tourist attraction – cave tubing.

The twist is to use professional grade inflatable tubes and local tour guides to gently cruise down a mountain river.

Then continue the ride as the river swoops into an underground cave used by the ancient Maya, and at the end of the ride, re-emerge at the mouth of a huge stalactite lined cave into the bright sunlit jungle teeming with wildlife and tropical trees – this is what cave Tubing is all about

ATM Cave Tour
This cave is one of the most popular Mayan burial sites in Western Belize. The cave contains four skeletons, ceramics, and stoneware left by the Maya. The most famous skeleton inside the cave is that of a young girl, the bones of which have been completely covered by the natural processes of the cave, leaving them with a sparkling appearance. The cave itself is several kilometers long with several chambers.

This adventure leaves Caves Branch Jungle Lodge around 8:30am. The hike from the starting point to the cave entrance includes three stream crossings and passes through the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve. The hike is approximately 45 minutes in duration. Once in the caves you will spend several hours swimming, climbing, and exploring. Once in the inner chambers you will take off your shoes and explore in only your socks to prevent damage to the artifacts. This adventure is challenging and a good level of physical fitness is required. The ability to swim is a plus as you will need to cross deep water to enter the cave and will be wading through water several times both inside and outside the caves.
