Overmoon

Overmoon An overland honeymoon we took back in 2015. Now we have two sons and don’t post as much. But, hopefully this info is useful for you! Hi, we're Jessie and Ian.

We live in Chicago, by way of Ohio, Texas, and North Carolina. Ian is a filmmaker. Jessie makes toys. In January, 2015 we're hitting the road and heading from Chicago to Zipolite, Mexico. It's our much delayed honeymoon. Backstory:

We're kinda slow. We dated for 10 years before we got married. Now, over a year and half after our wedding, we're just getting around to our honeymoon. Who knows, mayb

e we'll celebrate our 15 year anniversary 30 years from now. Anyway, many years ago, when we were first dating, Jessie said that someday she wanted to buy an old car and drive through Mexico. So, here we are. We bought an old truck to sleep in, packed our flip flips and camping hatchets, and we're taking off. It's our Overmoon.

Sadly, we could not stay in Zipolite forever. We had to pack up our sandy belongings and climb back into Lorraine for our trek back north through Oaxaca city, and eventually home. They say that the roads in Oaxaca are terrible and the drive from the coast to Oaxaca City through Pochutla is no excep…

New post up! See our week in Zipolite - we eat a goat, have a shootout with the Terminator, and get mole all over our car. http://www.overmoon.us/journal/2015/3/8/zipolite-our-home-away-from-home

Ahhh. We take a huge sigh of relief when we pull in to Zipolite. Nothing to do for a week but bask in the beauty of the beach from our respective hammocks, while eating ice cream. No lie. Zipolite is a place we've spent a lot of time in. We first discovered it back in 2005, and lived and worked the…

Very cool project truck. It's a rare one. If we were in the market, we'd jump all over this one!

La Paz is a city where one can get down to business. Which we did. We were stopped there for two days, while we waited for the ferry that would take us from Baja to the mainland. We got our laundry done, cleaned out the dust that had accumulated in the car and caught up on some internet time. We als…

After a pleasant, though slightly odd smelling ferry ride from La Paz, we've made it to the Mainland. Spent a few nights in Isla de Piedra, Mazatlan, and now are in San Blas, a tranquil little village on the coast. Tomorrow we head to Ciudad Guzman for a few nights with our pal, Cassie.

Comment ¡Baja! February 7, 2015 The last week has taken us through some breathtaking vistas: desert and beach, rocky cliffs, salt flats, dusty cities and mud. Lots of mud. Lorraine has been a trooper the whole way, despite her lack of air conditioning and the many creaks and grinding sounds emanatin…

We have arrived in San Diego. After a much needed shower and a meal, we climbed into Lorraine and passed out, comforted by the fact that we would have a few days in the same place before crossing the border. Even the trains, which roared by 10 feet from our heads all night, didn't bother us. It was a relatively pleasant night's rest until about 6:00am when we were woken by a crazy person pretending to be a cop. He was looking for someone who wasn't us, and went on his way. But there was no more sleep for us after that. At least he waited until 6:00.

Well, we survived our first night sleeping in Lorraine and got into and out of the extremely confusing Grand Canyon National Park. Unhelpful signs included "stop for children crossing the street" and "don't drink water from the toilets". Helpful signs included . . . None. The Canyon was grand, though.
