Red Island Sea Glass Beachcombing Adventures on the East Coast of Canada 🌊 Shop my Collections 🐚 Welcome to Red Island Sea Glass! Steph, Creative Designer

Ever since I can remember I've collected sea glass and other beach treasures along the shores of Prince Edward Island. I have found every colour of glass out there from the most basic colours to some of the most rare like red, orange, pink, yellow and black. I've also found combo colours, fully intact bottles, bottle stoppers and many beads & marbles. Instead of hoarding all my beach treasures I'v

e decided to share them with the rest of the world. I started out making jewelry but jewelry requires more specialty type pieces which means I still had lots of regular, but special shards so I decided to turn them into mobiles and art. Where my shop name comes from... "Red Island Sea Glass". The beautiful Prince Edward Island is such a special place, completely surrounded by water hence, island and is one of the Atlantic provinces on the east coast of Canada. PEI is known for being the "Red Island" because our soil is made up of reddish coloured sandstone. We have over 90 sandy beaches decorated with reddish sand, sand dunes and red sandstone cliffs. As you can imagine the main transport for years to and from the island was by boat so the shores, from tip-to-tip, of this precious island have seen many boats, ships and ferries come and go. Of course, some of these ships to have visited hadn’t lived to see another sunny day above water. Many shipwrecks and a plethora of glass submerged for the rest of time or until someone plucks it from the ocean. There’s also the case of people using our oceans as dumping grounds but that’s not as glamorous to think of so I prefer to think that everything I find came off a glorious ship, like the Titanic! My beautiful Island has so much to offer including lots and lots of sea glass. If you ever have the opportunity to visit please do but if not, take a gander at my shop items where hopefully you can find something special I've uncovered from the depths of time.

Do you love horses or the colour green? or maybe both! 🌿🐎 NEW in shop!

"Emerald Pastures" is a blend of green sea glass and sea pottery that is meant to evoke the serene beauty of horses grazing in a lush, green meadow. This frame features a rich palette of greens, from deep forest and olive to soft sage and vibrant green teal. The focal piece is a rare and beautifully detailed pottery shard depicting a pair of horses, a fragment of history now woven into this composition. Scattered throughout are delicate green teal pottery shards, some adorned with florals and intricate designs, adding layers of texture and charm. Together, these elements create a timeless scene—one that speaks of nature’s grace, untamed beauty, and the quiet whispers of the past ✨️

This collection comes from my favourite sea glass honeyhole in Prince Edward Island. While there’s not much pottery, the sea glass is beautifully tumbled and frosty. It’s tucked away in a secluded cove about 75 feet long. I’m hoping to make another trip next week if everything lines up—erosion, tides, seaweed, and all.

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Find… Twice!

Back in 2018, while in Newfoundland, I found what became my favorite pottery shard of all time. It featured a partial maker’s mark with an image of a cat and mice—a motif I had never seen before. As a huge cat lover, this little design immediately stole my heart and reminded me of my own kitty. Despite years of searching, I could never find the exact source of the mark.

Then, something completely unexpected and incredible happened this weekend. I found its doppelgänger! This time, I found the shard in Prince Edward Island, and unlike the first one, it has a partial name. Now I know it’s "Ironstone" china, but I’m still struggling to track down the exact maker.

What are the odds of finding two fragments, from two different provinces, both with this unique cat and mice design? I feel like this pattern should be more well-known, yet I can’t seem to find another example anywhere. Maybe I’m crazy, but I need help! If anyone has seen a similar maker’s mark or knows of an Ironstone china company that used a cat and mice in their branding, please reach out!

"Linen & Low Tide" 🐚🕊 Link in bio to purchase!

A delicate assemblage of timeworn sea pottery, each fragment a whispered echo of the past. Soft shades of white, cream, and tan blend like sun-bleached linen draped over a weathered shore. Among the treasures lie an antique doll’s arm, the ornate remnants of a smoke pipe bowl, the stem of a bygone era’s pipe, and a beautifully patterned tile—each piece a relic of stories long washed away by the tide. A fragment of a Hartley marmalade jar hints at everyday life from another century, while miniature sea shells and embossed pottery shards add a touch of intricate beauty, like lace left behind by the waves. Together, they form a tableau of quiet nostalgia, where history and ocean meet in a harmony as soft and timeless as fabric fluttering in a salty breeze.

The Key & The Door..

Long ago, a door stood at the heart of a forgotten place, its secrets locked away by time and tide. Now, only fragments remain—an antique keyhole, rusted by the sea, a lost key, and a piece of pottery depicting figures pointing toward a door. A single red gem gleams through the keyhole, like a hidden truth waiting to be discovered. Wrapped in forest green and teal sea glass, the relics seem reclaimed by nature, as if whispering of an ancient world where the key once turned and the door once opened 🗝🌿
