Can travel shape you? Like most things in life, it depends. “Nothing unexpected or wonderful is likely to happen if you have an itinerary in Paris filled with the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower,” said Anthony Bourdain.

But there are forms of travel that take you beyond the superficial allure of foreign destinations. These often involve getting out of your comfort zone and immersing yourself in another culture. To provide more of such opportunities for college students, I’ve established the Adams International Internship Endowment. If you’re in a position to contribute, I hope you’ll help me pay it forward.

The Adams International Internship Endowment will provide scholarships for liberal arts students participating in CSULB's international internship program.

This cheesy shot may not be a painting, but it hints at what you’ll see of the 17th-century Dutch master’s works in 10 rooms at the from February 10-June 4. With 28 intimate scenes (from only 37 known paintings) created between 1654-1674, it’s the largest Vermeer collection ever exhibited. May 4 is Remembrance Day in the Netherlands, when the Dutch commemorate all who've died in war as well as in peacekeeping missions since the outbreak of World War II. Along with thousands of Jews who lost their lives to the N***s more than a half-century ago, we also remember thousands of innocent victims of a more recent this year.

Amsterdam's thriving Jewish Quarter around Waterlooplein may be consigned to history, but a new Jewish Cultural Quarter preserves its legacy.
