Disneyland reinvented in 1967, adding several innovative attractions, including the WEDWAY PeopleMover, Carousel of Progress, Rocket Jets, Flight to the Moon, and Adventure Thru Inner Space.
Each was sponsored by a corporate partner, with Monsanto Chemical (a longtime Disneyland sponsor) backing the Inner Space attraction.
The ride was the first of Disney Parks patented OmniMover system, which allowed for continuous loading, while the ride is in motion. In the case of Adventure Thru Inner Space, the vehicles were known as “Atomobiles.”
Paul “The Man of 1,000 Voices” Frees narrated the experience. Of course, Frees, who was a busy voice actor for Disney (and many others), went on to also voice the Haunted Mansion attraction, as well as the “Dead Men Tell No Tales” talking skull and crossbones animatronic in the Pirates of the Caribbean.
The Adventure Thru Inner Space operated from August 1967 - September 1985, until the space was demolished to make way for StarTours.
