Saddened and heartbroken to learn of the loss of a dear friend, canoeing buddy, and fellow Bite Me Expeditioner, David Patterson. Dave will be sorely missed on our outings. He was always good for a laugh and a great joke. Anytime that I pulled up to a store and saw Dave’s truck in the parking lot, I could be sure of two things; we were going to talk about our next adventure, and I would be laughing a lot for the next few minutes
no matter my current mood!
Love ya, Dave! Paddle around up there and scout out all the good spots for us, bud!

Sipping coffee on this cool early fall morning. Have never seen this many hummingbirds at our place. At one time there were a few on the feeder and several loitering around, waiting their turns. I counted eight, and know that I missed several. Guess the cool air has them heading south.

Also, if any of my friends personally knows Coach Benefield, or any of his coaching staff, please extend a sincere thank you to them from the Pisgah Ag Department. Last night, their locker room was unbearably hot, due to the resetting of the Schneider controls on the A/C unit. We have no control over these settings. The doors to the Ag Shop were open, because we were hosting the Crossville High School Marching Band. They felt the cool air and moved the football team into the hallway of the Ag Shop for halftime.
Y’all. After the players returned to the field to warm up for the second half, the coaches stayed behind to clean where the boys had been sitting. When I came around the corner, these guys were literally on their hands & knees, scrubbing the entire floor with towels! They left it better than they found it!
Class act right there, folks.
Please let Coach Benefield know that I truly appreciate it!

Y’ALL.
I just can’t find the words.
For my far-flung friends, the Pisgah/Fyffe rivalry goes back a while. Fyffe has been a dominate powerhouse in 2A classification for many years. Pisgah has built a very respectable program, as of late. However, it was always, “Well, you have to get past Fyffe
”
This year when the new classifications came out, Fyffe moved up to 3A and Pisgah stayed in 2A. Everyone was so happy. “Now is our chance!” However we were already scheduled to play Fyffe, anyway.
Then the preseason rankings came out. Pisgah was ranked #1 in 2A!!! Not only that, but Fyffe had moved up a classification, but they were STILL ranked #1 in 3A! That is a testament to the program that Benefield has built there.
Then Fyffe, #1 in 3A, rolls in to Pisgah, #1 in 2A for the first game of the season. While it is true that this game “didn’t really matter” as far as region and state playoffs
it really mattered to our boy’s hearts! And man alive, did they play with heart!!!
The attached pic is a screenshot of my updates that I was sending to all of the family via our “Moore or Less” family group text. I could blame it on my new glasses that make it really hard to read my screen, or smoke getting in my eyes from the lady chain smoking right outside of the gate. However, I might as well go ahead and admit that I was typing and screaming and jumping and slapping strangers on the back and I may have even given out a few hugs all while I was typing that message.
Cannot express how excited that I am for these boys, their families, these coaches, and our little community.

Rod Hall had a very good post about the importance of the Ag Shop. I made a comment on his post and just to be honest, I feel like the comment needs to be shared as a post on my FB page, so here ya go:

“I have decided that my Ag Shop serves as a “reprieve” for many students.
-For those students who struggle in a regular classroom, seem to excel in the Ag Shop.
-For those students that excel in the regular classroom, seem to relax a bit in the Ag Shop because they aren’t pushed so hard for perfection. They can relax and enjoy what they learn.
-For those students that may not have the best home life, they come to the Ag Shop and put their minds, hands & backs to work and their tensions can melt away for a while.
-For those students that have a great home life, they can come to the Ag Shop and work right alongside students from broken homes, for those boards that they are planing, or sawing down do not care which child comes from which home.

I had a very young student come into my office to show me a spoon that he had carved at home. He told me that he has severe ADHD and that the sound of the blade slicing gently through the grain of the wood was the only thing that he had found that calms his brain down. He spoke to me for a really long time about all of the projects that he has built, using his hands and his brains. This kid is just starting 7th grade. I sat for a long time, just letting him tell me about finding an old, broken saw blade and finding a “perfect stick for the job”. How he had split the stick in half, longways with the grain, cut it half and affixed the four pieces to the saw blade to make a two person saw that he & his brother use. I asked him if anyone had helped him build all of this stuff and he shook his head “No.” I asked him if anyone had taught him how to build that stuff, and he said, “No. Not really. I just kinda know and what I don’t know, I just have to figure it out.”

It’s been a while since I’ve published any kind of video. We’ve been busy with summer work travels, living life and recording some new stuff.
This is the first in what should be a several part series of transforming our GMC Yukon XL from a kid hauling mom-Mobile grocery getter into a mildly capable overlanding rig. A self contained truck camping rig
all while still being able to haul a few kids around when I need to.

Come along as we transform my hand-me-down 2013 GMC Yukon XL into a mildly capable overlanding vehicle.
