Nearly home. Passing through South Dakota. Experienced heavy rain and high winds east of Sturgis. Many overturned campers and trailers.
The Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX tires did a great job handling the wet roads.
My next post will be a recap of the trip so stay tuned.

After Jasper it was on to Banff. The mountains here seemed different from what we had seen elsewhere. These mountains looked mean. Jagged peaks, glaciers galore and waterfalls. From here we will be heading back to the US.

Headed into Alberta and spent 2 night's in Jasper Provincial Park. Explored Pyramid Lake while we were there. The town of Jasper was very nice and sits right in the middle of the park. Got to see some more wildlife too.

The end of the Alaska Highway for us at Dawson Creek. The highway had some of the worst conditions I have ever driven on. Some sections were mile after mile of gravel roadway that had so many potholes and ruts you couldn't avoid them. This was far worse than the Dalton highway. The OME suspension held up just fine as did the Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX tires. 10,000 plus miles into the trip and the tires have handled everything like a charm.

Some very interesting gas stations along the Alaska Highway. No frills whatsoever. More beautiful campsites and Spectacular scenery. And of course once we were back in Canada we had to stop at another Tim Hortons.

More great Overlanding vehicles I came across while in Alaska and Canada. The MAN belonged to a German couple we met in Portage. The Delica belonged to a couple from Vancouver that we met in Dawson Creek. The Troopy and Kimberly camper belonged to a couple from Holland that we met in Jasper Alberta.

After Denali we headed down to the Kenai Pennensula. Went all the way down to the town of Homer. Probably the most beautiful area I have been in so far. A lot of glaciers and a nice little town.

Got to camp in the Fairbanks Walmart parking lot when we returned from the Arctic Circle. It was certainly different from the camping we had been doing. Lots of big RV'S there. Serviced the FJ the next morning and then hit the road for Denali National Park but not before stopping for a bacon wrapped reindeer dog. We were unable to see Mount McKinley due to cloud cover, but it was a great day any way.

Finally in Alaska, never realized how big Canada is. Border agents seem very surprised that we are from Chicago and we're not carrying weapons, wonder why. Stayed in a nice campground near Tok Alaska where Violet discovered a part of the roof top tent she had not seen. Started heading towards Fairbanks.

Made it to the Yukon! Spent time in Whitehorse and had a nice dinner at a local spot. Saw some great sights and met John and Ann from Australia touring with their Overland rig they call Boomer. Also ran into a guy from the states towing a Kimberly, one of only 3 in the US. Getting close to Alaska.

Been a long time since postin, but here is a quick update. Made it to the Pacific Ocean which was beautiful. Headed north into Washington from there, and finally got into Canada. Drove through Vancouver during rush hour, worse than Chicago traffic.
Will post again soon.

Finally out of the heat. Heading north through California to Oregon. Picked up the TransAm Trail again in Lakeview Oregon. Some tough logging roads and difficult navigation on the trails gave me the opportunity to talk to a lot of helpful people along the way every time I got lost. Won't be long before I get to the Pacific Ocean.

Haven't posted in a while, service has been sporadic. Last post we were battling the heat in Las Vegas. As if that wasn't hot enough, we decided to check out Death Valley. 116 degrees! The landscape there is awesome. If you have never been, put it on your list of places to see. Heading north through California next.

Last day in Moab we did "Bull Canyon ". A short but fun trail. 109 degrees when we left Moab, that wasn't hot enough so we headed to Las Vegas where it was 114. It was my first time there, really enjoyed it. Even won a few bucks. Thinking about heading to Death Valley next.

Made it to Moab Utah. Staying at the Slickrock campground for a few days. Did the Top of the World trail. Spectacular views from up there. The trail was very challenging in places and a lot of fun. The Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX tires handled every obstacle with ease. I am very impressed with how well these tires have done in all types of terrain. Have made good use of the Chi Town 4x4 powered rear window in the 100+degree temps.

On our last trail day in Colorado we did Mineral Creek, Engineers Pass, Cinnamon Pass and returned on Mineral Creek. Some tremendous wheeling and scenery. Mineral Creek was the most fun, very challenging. Before we took the reverse trip on Mineral, we helped prevent a rollover in the ghost town of Animas Forks. All in all a great day on the trails.
