The Jankunu Festival (also known as Junkunu or Jonkunu) is a vibrant cultural celebration held primarily in near by Dangriga, during Christmas time.
It is a traditional event of the Garifuna people, blending African, Caribbean, and indigenous influences. The festival features colorful street parades with dancers in elaborate costumes and masks, energetic drumming, and singing. These performances often depict mythical characters. The Jankunu Festival is not only a celebration of Christmas but also an expression of Garifuna heritage, showcasing their rich history, music, dance, and community spirit.
