Azaleas at Nezu shrine were gorgeously in bloom when I visited there this Tuesday (April 15th). There were still a lot of buds that were to bloom from now, so you will be able to enjoy it for a while, I think. Seeing some shops selling kokeshi was also fun!

I did 2 miso making workshops last year, but this year, I didn't plan any because my schedule was unknown with my son's college exams.

I found a time last week and went to see Miwako sensei and did miso making with my daughter. The one my daughter made was sent to my mother, who is a big fan of Miwako sensei's homemade miso😉

Miwako sensei also started to teach miso making using chickpeas recently. I remember when we had a guest 3 years ago, whose family had a soy bean allergy, asked if sensei could teach miso using chickpeas.

Miwako sensei let us tasted the chickpea miso she made last year. It tasted just like the regular miso was really rich and tasty.

I will probably try making chickpea miso next year. Anyone who would like to join, please let me know!😉

I experienced pottery making with my friend last month and received what we made the other day.

Mine are tea bowl and flower vase.

It was actually the day we were supposed to go to Mashiko, but on the way on the train, I noticed most of the places we were visiting were closed because the day was after the national holiday.

I was halfway to Mashiko already, but quickly called my friend, got off the train, and searched what we could do on the way.

What I found as an alternative was pottery making. Fortunately, the pottery making teacher I called was available on that day, and we had such a good time.

We learned that pottery making was much harder than we thought! We went to Mashiko the following week, and we appreciated all the hard work put by artisans!

I was not planning on doing any tours this month because of my son's entrance exams, but I decided to accept a few requests I got in the last minutes in between his important exams. I am glad I did!

I was with this wonderful Australian family for 2 days. We did a lot, and one of my favorite time with them was at .

A 75 year old bathhouse which was renovated into a cafe. We were at one of their small rooms where it used to be an employees break room above the boiler room😆

Chatting in a small but cozy tatami room having good coffee was such an enjoyable moment! I could see why the traditional tea room was made small on purpose!

My husband and I went to a local temple today to have our new car pray for safety.

In Japan, it is common to visit the temple/shrine to have a special purification rite for your new car or just wish for a safty of your present car at the beginning of the new year. 🚙

We registered our neme with car lisence plate number and parked our car at a special parking spot in front of the building where the priests conducted the ceremony.

The priest then purified cars with "Nusa," which looks like a holy duster, and he chanted sutra and prayed.

In the end, we got a sticker type of talisman to stick on the car and the wooden talisman to keep.

There were quite many people at the rite. I guess it is because of January, and people still visit to wish for a good new year.

I visited Mashiko, the pottery town in Tochigi, to check the site for my upcoming tour in spring for my guests.

Mashiko is very famous for the annual pottey festival in spring and autumn, but it is also nice to visit there when it is quiet and not crowded.

My dear guide friend drove me around this charming town, (yes, you need to have a car!) and we got to visit the museum, shops and potter's studio, where "Noborigama", the precious climbing kiln, is still in use to bake works.

I learned a lot, and the souvenir for myself today was a little salt celler. This cute little container keeps the salt dry, thanks to the breathable feature of the pottery. I will adore it❤️

I got to help these beautiful ladies (my dear friend and her daughter!) today as they get ready to attend the Japanese wedding of their relative.

I was so happy to hear they had an amazing experience at the wedding held at the Hie shrine✨️😊

Actually the kimono rental shop owner I have been working with for the past 5 years closed his shop last year and is now preparing to open a new shop in the near future.

It is so nice of him to still help me when my clients have a request. He arranges the kimono, and he and the kimono dressers come all the way to my clients' homes with me. I am very grateful I can still work with them like this.

Looking at people dressed up in Kimono gives me a happy feeling. I experienced 2 happy days this week , The Coming of Age Day of my daughter and today👘 Now I am taking deep breaths as my son takes big entrance exams for university this weekend😌

It was Coming of Age Day today. My oldest daughter turned 20 last year, and she attended the ceremony today. It was a wonderful day for the whole family.😊

Most of the girls wear "Firisode" the kimono with the long sleeves. There are three meanings for this special type of kimono.👘

1. Driving away evils and bringing in fortune.

2 .The long sleeves used to be a way to express love by single ladies. If she wants to say "Yes" to someone she loves, she swings the sleeve left and right. If she wants to say "No," she swings the sleeves up and down

3. Only single ladies were allowed to wear the long sleeve kimono. Married ladies wear Tomeside, the short sleeve type of kimono.

I visited an outstanding exhibition of Shimenawa artisan the other day. Mr Joko is an artisan who makes rice straw decorations in Ehime prefecture. All of his creations are amazing.

Just like other artisans of traditional crafts in Japan, wonderful skills are gradually lost because of fewer successors.

His grandchild is now on the project to spread his work in Japan and hopefully to the world!

Unfortunately, this wonderful exhibition was finished yesterday, but I am guessing there should be another chance to see his work again soon because his work is so popular.

As someone involved in Shimekazari making, I really wish this project would be successful!

This project is raising funds over crowdfunding, so please help if you are interested. I have just joined the crowdfunding.
