Finchley B&B Wandandian Shoalhaven NSW Documenting the progress of my 2 self-contained B&B units in the heart of the Shoalhaven region of South Coast NSW. Please refer our website for more details.

I would like to share the pleasure of this delightful setting.! Set on 2.5 acres (1ha) of lightly treed rural landscape with lovely views, just 2-3 minutes off the Princes Highway, we are situated half way between Nowra to the North and Milton-Ulladulla to the South. Within 20 - 25 mins' radius are many of Shoalhaven/Jervis Bay's most stunning beaches, as well as walking tracks, waterfalls, lookou

ts, award-winning wineries, markets, galleries, historical villages, and restaurants, including the famous Rick Stein at Bannisters, Mollymook. We hope to offer our guests and their pets (welcome upon negotiation when booking, max 2 dogs) a very enjoyable and comfortable stay, and provide the makings of breakfast in your pantry and fridge with some cooking facilities available.

After two wonderful months overseas*, we are slowly getting back into welcoming guests, albeit quietly, being mid winter. Shout out to our lovely house-sitter, Suzie, for caring for our hens and keeping everything in such wonderful nick during our absence, despite all the rain.

*Alright, well the short version is: Florence, Lucca, Prague, Paris, Avignon, London, Lincoln, Suffolk, Ring of Kerry, Scottish Highlands, Chelsea Flower Show...

We passed the 9th anniversary of Finchley B and B on the June Long Weekend 2024, and look forward to another great year of meeting lots of new guests, and their pets, welcoming back regular guests, and making friends along the way. It's still a great pleasure. Looking forward to spring, my favourite time of year!

Our latest celebration at Finchley was our Cavalier group's St Valentine's Day Eve party, where all sorts of sweet nothings were whispered into long ears and adoring faces.... It's lovely to be able to offer our place to these gatherings every so often, where the pups can all romp around in a secure acre off-lead and come and go as they please, as we 'big people' eat, drink and play party games up on the verandah.

Latest 'update' on our wombat saga is that there isn't one..... I am very much concerned that someone may have shot him (illegally) about a week ago as we've not seen any sign at all of his having been on our property for the past week, and usually there is evidence of his at least passing through. I asked the neighbour from whose property I heard a close gun shot last week, at night, and he denies having seen it, but he did include in our conversation, quite a list of reasons why he might want to (shoot it).... all the attempts at burrowing on his property including under a water tank, under a concrete slab, under the abandoned cottage near our boundary (he said two brick piers have collapsed thanks to the wombat)... and of course he has ongoing concerns about his horses or cattle stepping in one of the holes and breaking a foot or leg... If our wombat is no more, despite the years of hassles he created, still... We will certainly miss him. Now watch this space for a new post in which I announce his return, and what a ruddy nuisance he is, ha ha...

Our latest 'adventure' around Finchley is the 'management' of our local wombat's coming and going. It hasn't been well, and seems to have been kicked out of its burrow so it's always looking for somewhere cool and safe to spend the daytime. A while back it settled on part of the garden bed outside my rose garden. This is in the main B and B space, so that was a challenge. Currently - it comes and goes, and on the days when it's not there, we are hopeful it's found a new and more appropriate place to shelter during the day. Anyone hoping to book with us with dogs at this stage, please be aware that if the wombat is in the garden on any given day we would be asking you to confine your dog to the (gated) verandah space or the back yard which is accessed off the rear door of the cottage, and separate from the main garden space. Also dogs can be walked in the acre on lead under supervision. This is only if the wombat is present on any given day. Our local wildlife rescue people have been putting in a lot of effort to help this little guy recover from his ailments and (eventually) bounce back to full health as we have lost so many of our native fauna in the bushfires and through urban development pushing them out of their comfort zones. I thank any guests who find they need to work around this little guy for their understanding. Bronwyn and Geoff

All the new roofing completed within a month of commencement, and generally all well done.... this included new solar hot water system and solar panels on the North face of our shed roof. Although they won't see this post I thank our local trades who did a great job under some 'trying' circumstances (poor communication from upper supervision levels). We also, in the process, had a Tesla 'power wall'' installed, and plug in electric vehicle charger. So all back up and running now. Great to get all that behind us!

An update on our availability, following the commencement of roof replacement. We will be accepting booking requests again from late this coming week (ie around 28th September), as most of the roofing work has now been completed and scaffolding has been removed. Hurrah!

We had another of our Cavalier group meets here at Finchley yesterday, and such a delightful day it was! The pups who attended had a wonderful time charging about the place, as did we fur parents wandering around with them and having brunch on the verandah. Here's a video of some of the pups having fun exploring and making the most of the space.

It was a perfect day, weatherwise, and thanks must go to Col Crawford, our guest of 3 nights with wife, Jo, for taking these group photos for us, and plenty more! Our pups got to welcome 3 more Blenheim Cavaliers who have come to stay for a few nights, this afternoon. They will also be co-hosting our next Cavalier group meet here at Finchley B&B Wandandian Shoalhaven NSW, and look forward to romps around the garden with some of their chums! We had family and UK friends staying during mid-late April, so the pups didn't get to meet any new canine friends in that time. Following the hail storm in April, insurers have told us we have to have all the roofs replaced, even though there is no obvious damage to the residence or B and B at this stage, but no existing or future accepted bookings will be impacted by this work when it is done. The roof work will be done when we have a period with no bookings as it is not affecting the dwellings in any way, so it is not urgent.

Hi everyone! It's been a pretty busy year, as many guests as I can cope with (the cleaning, I mean), and dodging very dubious weather this year, most, if not all of our guests have been very fortunate in having some lovely days to get out and about. We would just like to take this moment to wish all of our past and future guests a very happy Easter, hope the bunny is good to you!

Just a little update on how we are getting on at Finchley, and a very Happy and prosperous New Year to all! All is OK here at present, and of course we hope we continue to welcome many lovely guests, many with their pets, visiting our beautiful region or even stopping en route to destinations further up or down the coast!

As this is a very pet-oriented place, it may not surprise you to see that much of our news centres around our own pets and their friends... especially in a year which was not so conducive to getting to the beach, doing walks and so forth! The low point for us this year was losing our beloved Louis at the end of October. He had a big 15th birthday party here with lots of his friends, at the end of August - a pretty good age for a Cavalier. Thankfully, the demands of our two remaining girls, Jazzie and Millie, helped us 'move on' but he will always be in our hearts, along with all our others before him.

On a happier note, in mid December, we had our regional Cavalier King Charles Spaniel group Christmas party here, and it was a great day, with about 34 people and 44 dogs attending. We've had a number of group get togethers here, but this was the biggest yet, and it included spreading out in the garden more than usual, so some of our lovely friends offered marquees, extra tables and chairs and so on, so we could capitalise more on the acre of secure space for the pups, shade under our tall scribbly gums on what turned out to be a lovely, warm day, and enjoy a couple of party games along the way. Here are a few photos from the party, but also I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who stayed with us in 2022, wish all well, and hope for many more enjoyable experiences hosting and getting to know new visitors in 2023.
