Sometimes, that extra half hour of sleep in the morning is what stands between you and an unforgettable encounter.

This sighting is from over 5 years ago, but it is still something guests fondly remember and talk about. Their guide, had encouraged guests to wake half an hour earlier than their first night on safari in Nxai Pan, and it paid off.

Whilst having breakfast, Rob heard the distant call of a jackal and knew that was the cue for something special. With everyone hastily getting in the vehicle, they were off in the direction of the call. As they were getting closer to the call, a herd of giraffe were standing still, all staring in the same direction. And there they were, a mother cheetah and 2 inquisitive beautiful cubs. They were able to spend nearly 2 hours with these wonderful cats and with the bonus of no one else around.

Sometimes the early riser does catch a perfect moment.

What would you like to see on the 2025 Golden Africa safari menu?

We are currently refreshing the menu for both our luxury roving camp and expedition mobile camp, and we want to hear your input.

Our talented chefs already receive fantastic feedback, with the majority of guests often commenting that they can’t quite believe what is produced from our small mobile kitchen in the middle of the wilderness.

However, as passionate ‘foodies’ ourselves we know that the food industry is in a constant state of evolution, with new trends emerging every year. We therefore want to incorporate these ever emerging trends where possible and deliver a menu that reflects your tastes whilst still being practical to deliver in our unique environment.

So, what do you love to eat on safari? What do you want to see more or less of? What new, fresh ideas or twists do you want to see on the menu?

“We spent three days early September in one of Golden Africa Safari’s mobile camps in the southern part of the Moremi Game Reserve, and this has definitely been THE HIGHLIGHT (yes! In capital letters!) of our stay in Botswana - which was, anyway, an amazing one overall.

We had been on safari before but this was different and very very special. Compared to lodges or other tented camps, the setting of this mobile camp is much simpler yet, a luxury in itself. Being in the middle of nowhere and having nature to yourself is such an indescribable privilege!! And of course, the whole, in the company of such an experienced, passionate and respectful for nature guide such as , and the amazing team behind running such a camp - what magic they cook and organize with so simple means!

We had amazing sightings including seeing a cheetah catch an impala, but best was to not be on any schedule, take the time to immerse ourselves in nature and just follow the natural rhythm of the savanna. And the sunsets and skies at night!

I can’t finish this review without wholeheartedly thanking the team for everything and especially, for having organized a surprise lunch in the middle of the most beautiful scenery on the day of our anniversary, I have no words to describe how happy they made us all - my husband and I, our children and their partners - feel. Thank you, and who knows, we are already day dreaming about coming back and safari with you again!”

What an incredible welcome to Botswana. Earlier this year, we had guests arriving late in Savuti and head straight to camp. This was their first ever safari and they were eager to rise early to head out on their first morning game drive, which certainly paid off.

Exploring an area where had heard some alarm calls, they were delighted to find a beautiful male leopard in the grass. The morning didn’t end there, guests then went on to see a female leopard successfully hunt an impala. She was then joined by a younger male and the first male that guests had seen this morning. Seeing the 3 leopards interact in this way, and seemingly tolerate each other, was a fascinating sighting and certainly an unforgettable first morning on safari for guests.

Celebrating love in the heart of Botswana.

There’s no place quite like the Okavango Delta to mark a milestone as special as a 25th wedding anniversary. Recently, we had the honor of hosting a wonderful couple, Bill and Marianne, and their family as they celebrated a quarter century of love and togetherness amidst the backdrop of Botswana’s wilderness.

Bill and Marianne knew the day was destined to be special from the moment they set off for the ceremony. The journey began with several exciting wildlife encounters – successfully tracking a beautiful cheetah that graciously posed on a termite mound plus a handsome male lion.

Our team was thrilled to be part of this unique celebration, putting together a traditional ceremony to commemorate the occasion. Sodium, our Samil truck driver, took on the role of the elder, draping Marianne with a ‘tshale ya lemyalo’ (shawl) adorned with a brooch and placing a traditional scarf on her head, accompanied by some heartfelt advice.

Following the moving ceremony, the family enjoyed a delicious bush lunch with a stunning backstop of hippo, zebra and elephants. The natural beauty and serene environment made the celebration even more memorable.

We are so glad we were able to host the special day which left and indelible mark on the family, blending the joy of the special milestone with the true splendor of the Botswana wilderness.

Discovering the smaller wonders on safari.

Often, on safari the focus is on the larger animals, but the true magic of a safari and the wilderness also lies in the small!

Dung beetles are nature’s recyclers. Often overlooked, these smaller marvels play a crucial role in our ecosystem. They have a comb on each foreleg, as well as antennae which have a club at the end, consisting of about five flat moveable plates that can open like a fan. This is used to carefully sift through fibrous dung to locate fine clumps.

A ball of dung is then prepared and serves as a food source for adults and also has a reproductive function, as this ball is where the egg is laid and upon which the larva feeds.

On our safaris, amongst seeing the ‘more popular’ wildlife, we like to spend time to appreciate these incredible insects and other smaller wildlife so guests can gain a deeper understanding of the delicate balance that keeps our ecosystem thriving.

Spotting this beautiful cat will always generate heart palpitations for us. Just about every one of our guests wants to see a leopard on their safari, and we are lucky that Botswana is home to a good population of this magnificent cat.

As the predator that has the highest tolerance for habitat diversity, ranging from the dry desertified landscapes of the Kalahari through to the tropical swamps of the Okavango Delta, the leopard is found all over Botswana.

Epic battles between lion and buffalo can often go on for hours reminding you that life in the wilderness is very much untamed and raw.

Sometimes nature can also appear very cruel making it hard not to feel a lot of emotion for the animal being hunted.

This sighting is from the first day of one our safaris in Moremi where the battle between this lone buffalo and a pride of 20 lions was not exactly evenly matched after the buffalo became completely lodged in a thick muddy lagoon. He had nowhere to go as the lions attacked him from behind making it a difficult sighting for some.

The circle of life is vital for the ecosystem but can be harsh at times.
