Hi there Shore Beats Work fans! You all have been so amazing and supportive over the years. We appreciate each of you so much! While surfing the web a few months ago, I noticed that we are listed on TripAdvisor.com .
We put a lot of work into making the house nice for our guests, so imagine my surprise when I found the house listed with only two ratings, neither of which were good. We were shocked. These were back from 2021- 2022 and nobody else has given a rating since then.
We would like to ask a favor.... if you've stayed at SBW, would you mind taking a few minutes and leaving us a review of how your stay went while you were vacationing here? We're hoping this might boost our horrible rating. Here's the link:

Shore Beats Work has new kitchen appliances! It was just time for an upgrade. Super stoked about the oven since it is a convection oven as well as an air fryer. For those of you who have had issues with the ice in the refrigerator, we hope this has resolved the issue.😉

Sharing here because so many people have had difficulties with this over the past few weeks. Rip currents are real and they can take lives. There are ways to get out of a rip current. YouTube has several short videos on this. Anytime my family goes to the beach, we each refresh our memory of what to do in case of a rip current by watching a video.

Here's the update on the picture of the rip currents we posted earlier. The blue box and arrow shows where the rip current is forming on beach. As the waves comes in all that water has to go somewhere. Here it is flowing east down the beach before it heads back out into the ocean as a rip current.

The large red boxes show whitewater beyond the breakers. These themselves are not always a rip current, but are strong indicators there is one very close, or embedded. When water flowing out from the beach is able to stop a wave in its tracks and flow "over" the top of the wave, flattening it, you should know there is strong current present.

The green arrows point to the rip currents. The one on top is pretty mild and you may hardly feel it, but the bottom one is very strong. They look calm, like a section of calm water between the breakers. In fact, they often look inviting as a place to avoid getting hit by big waves. Do not be fooled by their deception!

This photograph also shows how dangerously close swimmers are to active rip currents. We know we often sound like a broken record talking about these things, but when rip conditions are moderate (yellow flag) to high risk (red flag), we have a responsibility to inform as many people as we are able.

Not long after the original post, we were dispatched to a possible drowning, just 17 blocks west of where this picture was taken. We do not yet know if that was a result of a rip current or not, and do not know the outcome for the swimmer. We will provide a separate post about that call in the near future.

This is what summer means to us at Shore Beats Work:
“Our quiet beaches are now packed with folks. Children’s screams of delight and laughter fill the air.
•It is so hot you think it can not get any hotter, then the next day it does.
•Sand so hot it burns your feet.
•A young boy high fives his Dad because he just had his first successful skim board ride.
•You fish off the pier because fishing from the shore you may hook a human.
•Restaurants and businesses booming with activity.
•Parking lots full at all the beach accesses.
•Turtles nesting and babies hatching.
•Some folks so sun burned they glow.
•Over hearing conversations on the beach that they are sad because they must go home in the morning and being grateful this is my home.
•Residents remember be kind, thoughtful and grateful. Most of these visitors have been saving and looking forward to coming to this place we call home.
•Visitors remember be kind, thoughtful and grateful. We work hard so you can visit this place we call home.”

Memories to Last a Lifetime

There is something so soothing about the sound of crashing waves of the tide, the feeling of the the gentle, salty breeze that moves across your skin, the sight of the ocean that stretches on for miles, accompanied by the smell and taste of the ocean air. These are all reasons that our family has loved our beach adventures over the years. The memories we have made on our trips are something that we all cherish.

We first came to Oak Island as a family back in 2008. On that first trip, we fell in love! Finding a place that was family friendly, including our furry family members, was a priority, and we found it here. Over the years, we made it a priority to make the time and save for the added expense to take a time-out from our everyday lives and work load. Those trips were something we looked forward to all year long.

We consider it a huge blessing and privilege to be owners on OKI. Part of our desire and dream of ownership always included having an opportunity to share and bless others with memory-making stays. We hope that all that stay at “Shore Beats Work” have the opportunity to enjoy and experience OKI with all of their senses and leave here with both their soul and body refreshed with memories to last for a lifetime.
