It seems only appropriate that we’re soaking up WiFi in a coffee shop while we finally get back to work on the blog... It’s nice to know that after 15 months and counting of living out of backpacks we’ve still got it

Sometimes luck is on your side. We managed to score this spot at Jenny Lake campground in the Tetons, despite the fact that these sites typically fill at 6am AND the sign said 'Campground Full'!

We've been a little short on internet, but here sleeping in the back of the car at a truck stop, we've found wifi! Since we left you last, we've accidentally scored two beautiful campsites in Rocky Mountain National Park, seen an entire herd of elk, some big horn sheep, one marmot and earned a brand new junior ranger badge! Looks like this is off to a promising start! Tetons here we come!

This was us about two days ago before we headed into the Travel Vortex on our way back home... Crazy cab rides, sketchy AirBnBs and even a 14-hour layover in Toronto can't slow us down- two flights to go!

Travelling long-term is an amazing privilege- it's like an endless buffet of possibility and excitement that just keeps coming... But like a real buffet (which you know that dirtbags like us LOVE) you get full eventually and you have to take a break. ..The truth is that at the end of 6 months and 30 national parks in South America, Africa and Europe we have seen and done so much that sometimes we wake up and forget what continent we're on and what language we'll be attempting that day.
We've survived days-long bus rides in Argentina, near-hypothermia at the tip of Chile, thousands of kilometers of Namibian gravel, Zimbabwean traffic stops, the desolation of the Scottish Highlands and Italian family dinners... we're ready to unpack our backpacks into some dresser drawers and hug our friends and families- this is why in a few days we'll be flying out of Venice, Italy for the United States and a new chapter of adventure.
Don't worry though- we have thousands of pictures to sort and share and over a dozen national park write-ups to post on the blog! You still haven't heard about Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa or how we ended up camping amid scorpions and baboons in Zimbabwe, much less our tips for hitchhiking the Isle of Skye in Scotland!
We're currently recouping in Monselice, Italy after 3 days in Gran Paradiso National Park- we look forward to sharing even more with you when we get back, but until then: Ever Further!

Took a break from the park scene to wander the ruined Roman city of Altilia in the rain.
Since it's off a ragged country road in the middle of nowhere the place was completely deserted (except for a few wild cats) which really added to the atmosphere as we walked the still-intact but now quiet streets

24 hours in Italy (so far):
- Fly into Venice. Discover that our rental car reservation has helpfully been cancelled.
- Freak Out.
- Spend quality time at the Avis counter. They rent us a car eventually.
- Drive 1 hour to Verona. The Italian drivers do not disappoint their reputation.
- Eat out because the vineyard Airbnb has no kitchen. I guess we'll live. We discover that we are both woefully underdressed for this whole country.
- The next day: drive 6 hours south to the Abruzzo region.
- Fun fact: Italian gas stations have standing-only espresso counters. We are in heaven.
- The GPS leads us deep into the hills surrounding Cellino Attinasio where all the curves are blind, all the drivers are insane and all the two-way roads fit 1.2 cars. We are in hell.
- After much effort we buy groceries.
- We arrive at our Airbnb and our hosts insist upon us eating dinner with them.
- Fun fact: They speak no English, we speak no Italian.
- We embark upon a 2-hour eating odyssey where we eat about 8 courses and communicate solely via hand gestures and google translate on our phones.
- Tomorrow we head to Gran Sasso National Park. It should be awesome.

By an extensive combination of hitchhiking, public bus and insane car rental schemes we made it out to the Isle of Skye, Scotland and were lucky to camp overnight in The Lookout bothy, an abandoned coast guard lookout-turned-mountain-shelter!

We spent the night watching lighthouses beam out over the North Sea and woke up to grazing Highland Cows and some rare Scottish sun before hiking back down

So at this point we have searched the night skies with specialized goggles for aliens, toured the National Sasquatch Museum, slept in haunted coastal inns and today we FINALLY made it to Loch Ness, Scotland to um, enjoy views of the loch.
