Today is a historic day for ocean conservation! All proposed shark & ray species have been listed under the Appendices of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS).

Species listed: 15 rays including the reef manta, nine devil rays,
and five sawfishes, and 6 sharks including three species of
thresher sharks, two hammerhead species, and the silky shark.

With CMS CoP11 entering its final days, and the plenary sessions for sharks, reef mantas and mobulas looming, there is one success we can take away from Ecuador regardless of the outcome of the proposals – the unity shown between many of the NGOs and IGOs attending the event!
