We came to Caithness 24 years ago on holiday and fell in love.....with Caithness
We came to Caithness many years ago on holiday and fell in love with everything about Caithness. We bought a small cottage at Noss Head, which we adore and are happy to share with other like minded people, and we also wanted one on the shore, being totally selfish! The Herons came on the market 14 years later and it became ours for others to experience and enjoy a breath of Caithness. Houses should not stand empty, they should be used and loved and lived in by one family, or many families, to make memories.
Caithness has so much to offer. We were told 24 years ago that no-one wanted to come to Caithness on holiday. How wrong were the people that said that!
What an amazing place for ancient history, flora, fauna, open skies, aurora, bird migrations and the odd bird which should not be there when it is (for any twitchers out there!). The coastline is dramatic, yet peaceful, with cliffs and beaches and little harbours that you might miss if you just drive by. You should come off the main road and explore and then find what is at the end of the road you have explored. You will be surprised by what you find.
There are some really good eateries around in little villages if you take care to look and some out of the way shopping too. Don’t expect everything to be where you think it will be. Caithness may be a challenge for some and it is worth taking the challenge, and a love for others who will feel totally at home. We hope The Herons makes you feel at home.
