Check out my latest interview with Battleface Travel Insurance about our Kwanza River expedition in Angola. Interesting focus for this podcast: a deep-dive on one particular element of an adventure where things went wrong. In our case: getting arrested at gunpoint for spying! 🇦🇴 🇦🇴 🇦🇴

Friends Oscar and Alfy were kayaking Angola's longest river when security forces arrested them at gunpoint, accusing them of spying.

Travel writer Oscar spoke to WHEN IT HITS THE FAN podcast about the ordeal here: https://bit.ly/3mch7iW

My latest interview about kayaking Angola's Kwanza River just went live over on Armchair Explorer. Except it's not really an interview: it is an adventure travel storytelling podcast set to music and cinematic effects. A really unique format. Enjoy!

Nobody should be drilling for oil in the Kavango Basin. “Oil and gas drilling poses a grave threat to the Okavango, and the company has ignored or belittled the serious concerns of local communities”.

ReconAfrica, a Canadian company exploring for oil and gas upstream of one of Africa’s most lush and wildlife-rich habitats, may have fraudulently misled investors by misrepresenting its work on the project, according to several experts and allegations in a whistleblower complaint filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Kayak The Kwanza

In June 2016 Alfy Weston and Oscar Scafidi kayaked, hiked & waded 1,300km along Angola’s longest river. This first ever descent of the Kwanza River from source to sea took 32 days and 12 hours, raised over $25,000 for The HALO Trust and set a new Guinness World Record. You can buy a book of their journey on Amazon, with 25% of profits donated to The HALO Trust, to help make Angola landmine-free by 2025. A free documentary of their expedition is also available on YouTube.
