The Space
The cottage is a small newly renovated 1940's 515 sq. and is at the end of a cul de sac on the same property as the historic home, Villa Blanca, listed under Sunny Room in Oak Cliff, and is very quiet. It is bright and sunny and a mix of contemporary & antique furnishings. From the moment you arrive you will feel transported to another place, Santa Fe? The smell of pinion burning in the
chimeneas, gardens blooming, beautiful cats lounging. Your host will greet you and show you to your home away from home. A small kitchenette with mini frig, microwave, toaster oven, island with two bar stools, love seat and chairs in sitting area, 36 inch tv with Direct TV. There is a Keurig coffee maker with an assortment of offerings. Continental breakfast is included with muffins, fruit and juice. There is a also a small porch with rattan chairs and a path through private gardens to a private sitting area with chiminea and pinion wood. Though there is no stove for cooking in kitchen, there is a small grill on your private sitting area in gardens for you use. Also in your garden is a table with chairs for dining al fresco. Soooo close to downtown Dallas yet barely a sound. A perfect place to think, write, or just rest after a stressful day or fun evening. Elmwood, Oak Cliff is a diverse neighborhood which was once The Tennessee Dairy Farm for many years before becoming single family dwellings. It is now a highly sought out neighborhood with affordable homes, and considered by D Magazine as one of the most desired suburbs in Dallas because of its close proximity to downtown Dallas, great restaurants and entertainment, beautiful mature trees and green ways. My home was built circa 1900 and was the first structure in Elmwood. It has many stories and folklore attached to it and was a speakeasy in the 1920's. It was rumored to be a haunt of Bonnie & Clyde. The cottage was built in the 1940's as guest quarters and has just been renovated to accommodate guests who want more privacy than the quest room in the main house listed under "Sunny Room In Elmwood, Oak Cliff. a cross- street a little east from us was the backdrop for the 1989 film Born On The Fourth of July, directed by Oliver Stone and staring Tom Cruise. We are one mile from the historic neighborhood of Winnetka Heights, 7 minutes from Bishop Arts Distrct and close to several bridges to downtown Dallas. We have lots of favorite venues for food & entertainment so will help you plan your stay with suggestions.
