Many have found endless inspiration in this place. It's difficult to put the feeling into words, but maybe it's the surprise of it all. A place that seems so barren but is truly filled with life. And though it's so silent, we hear so much more. On the darkest of nights, the sky is truly visible. This place

with so much to offer in turn makes us crave less, and here we find unshakeable happiness in the simplest of things. If we take time out to enjoy the sound of a bird's wings flying above, or the intensely starry sky, how can that be taken away? These are experiences we want to share. So, we found and fell in love with a 1949 house, and a 1958 casita, and redesigned each space with a 'slow' pace in mind. Our hope is that you enjoy every part of your stay, from making your local coffee by drip in the morning, choosing the perfect record to put on as the sun sets, or by relaxing in a hammock to watch the sun shift across the room.

Somehow it’s on the darkest nights that we see the most clearly. 💫 Highly recommend pulling out a blanket tonight and looking up at the stars with our refreshed fall new moon playlist featuring the coolest . Celebrating another trip around the sun today, this time as a family of four. 🥹🥰 Though this past year has not been an easy one, the most impactful ones never are. September was our first month renting the hacienda again, as we’ve been focused on renovating our adobe home to move into soon as a new family of four! It’s been so sweet sharing this space with you all again, especially seeing it through your lens. How gorgeous are these photos by ?!

It’s summer, road-trip season, and the new moon—a few of our favorite things. It’s also the perfect time to venture off to new places, so we asked (a musician we’ve been listening to non-stop lately) to curate the perfect desert road-trip playlist. And well, he did it y’all—this is a fun one. His song ‘Rock & Roll’ is featured from his album ‘Posh, Poodle, Krystal and Toe’ (nicknames for his bandmates if you’re wondering). This month has been one of those ones where everything has been breaking all at once (even when we prepare as much as possible, sometimes things just break). While we work through a seemingly never ending list of repairs, looking back on photos and sweet messages from our guests reminds us how fulfilling it is to host you all in these spaces (even through the days that aren’t so fun).

In honor of Saguaro bloom season, beginning to bloom when we’re in our 30’s (like the saguaro🌵🌼), and being grateful for you all—we just added this new digital print on our site for free. Bloom Patrol 📣🌵🌸🌼 The prickly pears are blooming, and to us it’s one of the most special times of year. Each bloom only lasts for one day, making their transition from yellow in the morning to the perfect peachy pink at golden hour even more special. This goes on for weeks, and gets us excited for the prickly pear fruit (tunas) to come this summer. 🌞

Somehow we’re already almost a week into May, which means pool season has arrived!🌞💦

Though mornings and evenings remain chilly, days are warming up (May average high is 85 in Joshua Tree, and 93 in Tucson). It’s the perfect time of year to wake up early for a hike amongst the cactus flowers and then spend the heat of the day relaxing poolside.

Each of our rental properties has an outdoor pool or tub:
💦 The House has a private cowboy pool
💦 The Casita has a private cowboy tub
💦 The Cabin has a private cowboy pool
💦 JTH Tucson has a communal canyon style pool for all guests to enjoy

(And yes, they all have A/C too!)

When we were designing one of the things we were most excited about were the communal spaces. Some of our favorite travel memories are from intimate places with communal spaces where we connected with other travelers, but also had the option to retreat back to our own private space. ✨

With only 6 rooms, yet 5,000+ sq ft of indoor common space and 38 acres of desert landscape, there’s so much open space to explore—cook dinner in our shared chef’s kitchen, walk our onsite trails and labyrinth, watch a movie on the projector in our communal living room, do a little yoga or meditation in the yoga room, stargaze on our rooftop patio, or lounge by the canyon pool or hotsprings style hot-tub. 🌵💦

We have some exciting news… our little family is growing in September!! We can’t wait to see Flora as a big sister. 🥹🧡

Living in a time where everything is designed for a fast paced life, we make a point to move slower. To stop and take in the sunrise, the native plants around us, the birds nesting by our house, and the moon setting over it all. To let the awe inspiring nature around us soak in, and reconnect with it. Happy Earth Day everyone—we hope you’re able to take a pause and (re)appreciate this incredible place we get to live. 🌍✨

We shared some of our holiday traditions with Anthropologie like adding string lights to our favorite cactus, and started some new ones like cooking our meal over the campfire. 🥘 Thank you Anthropologie for this special evening, for capturing the moment, and for making our moms tear up. ✨ #homefortheholidays #myanthropologie

Last weekend we experimented with some juicing methods with cactus fruit (using what we had around the kitchen) and made a prickly pear margarita. Excited to get back in the kitchen again this weekend to try out some other recipes. 🌵✨(we’ll make sure to share more on the methods we found to work soon too!)

Our Story

@thejoshuatreehouse on Instagram The Joshua Tree House is a place to reflect, reset, and create based in the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts.

It all began with a month long cross country road trip. We got in a routine of driving a few hours each morning, and spending the rest of the day hiking a National Park along the route. It was our first time to Joshua Tree, and it felt different than all the rest. Something about this place pulled us in and stayed in our thoughts. Exactly one year later, we found ourselves looking to buy a home in Joshua Tree. As soon as we stepped foot onto the property of the Joshua Tree House we knew it was special, and the perfect place to share with others who needed to reset, reflect, and create.

After sharing this place with others, we found it increasingly difficult to leave the desert and head back to the city ourselves. We eventually made the move to the Mojave desert full-time, a place that at first seems so barren but is truly full of life. In the silence of our new home we have heard feathers shuffle as a bird flies overhead, and in the darkness we have seen what feels like every star. It’s the desert that has guided us to a re-appreciation of the simplest moments, and the kind of happiness that can’t be taken away.
