Joshua Tree, CA

Many have found endless inspiration in this place. It's difficult to put the feeling into words, but maybe it's the surprise of it all. A place that seems so barren but is truly filled with life. And though it's so silent, we hear so much more. On the darkest of nights, the sky is truly visible. This place

with so much to offer in turn makes us crave less, and here we find unshakeable happiness in the simplest of things. If we take time out to enjoy the sound of a bird's wings flying above, or the intensely starry sky, how can that be taken away? These are experiences we want to share. So, we found and fell in love with a 1949 house, and a 1958 casita, and redesigned each space with a 'slow' pace in mind. Our hope is that you enjoy every part of your stay, from making your local coffee by drip in the morning, choosing the perfect record to put on as the sun sets, or by relaxing in a hammock to watch the sun shift across the room.

If you’ve been following along with our adobe renovation, pretty much no part of it has gone to plan (like when this bathroom’s glass shower wall shattered all over Rich and my dad when they were installing it 😳- they were luckily ok aside from a few cuts). We’ve been taking it day by day and figure if we just accomplish one small thing each day it’ll all add up… and guess what?! We now have a guest bathroom (something we’ve never had before).

Swipe to the end to see the moment we decided we wanted this bathroom to feel like sitting out under the stars on a desert summer night, and what this bathroom looked like when we bought the house!

If you love the tile as much as we do, it’s ’s alcazar in madera. ✨

With heartache and tragedy there is so much darkness, though that’s when we can best see the brightest lights. ✨

The sweet souls behind have been working tirelessly to put together a fundraiser to directly benefit families in LA who have lost their homes due to the recent fires. We’re taking part in the sweepstakes alongside 75 other small brands and artists (so many of our favorites!) with over $30k in prizes—all going directly to under funded Go-Fund me’s in an effort to help rebuild homes, spirits, and lives.

Though we don’t live in LA, we are constantly in awe of the spirit of those that live there. We can only imagine how difficult this has been, and want you to know that your community extends beyond the borders of LA.

Head to our stories for a link to the sweepstakes (and to see all 8 prize packs) and make sure to check prize #1 for a $750 gift card to any JTH property (Joshua Tree or Tucson)! Sending love and hopefully a little light to all those affected. 🧡

Ending the year with a new moon is powerful—a potent day of clarity and new beginnings both in the sky and on the calendar. 🌚✨

We couldn’t be more excited to share our last New Moon Playlist of the year, this time curated by who have serendipitous beginnings from when we invited a few friends over for a swim last year at our hacienda in Joshua Tree.

Their latest release ‘Fireside,’ has become a favorite of ours for just that—wrapped up in a blanket experiencing the contrast of crisp evening air and the warm glow of a fire. We hope their music enters the new year with you as a soundtrack to slow and intentional days.

Here’s to more time spent fireside, under the stars, with fewer things and more experiences surrounded by those we love. Write your own sweet memories into the songs so that whenever they play you’re swept back into the moment.

We’re in the midst of a move and finishing up renovations with a baby and a toddler which has been a wild adventure… so time outside has been extra meaningful the past month or so. Oh, and we had our first homemade meal over Thanksgiving at the adobe which felt so good!!

We really believe there’s nothing as healing as watching the moonrise, or taking a sunset hike and spotting native plants and wildlife along the way.

My grandma taught me early on that kitchens should be bright and sunny, so when we toured this house for the first time and saw the sun pour in and the views from the window at the kitchen sink we knew this would be our family home. 🌞 Swipe to the end to see the desert views we fell in love with and what this kitchen looked like when we bought the adobe last year.

This week’s garden view at the hacienda, vs over the summer and on the cover of our book back in 2018. A few weeks back the cactus on the right grew too much for its own good, broke in half and didn’t survive. Forever loving this view but missing that guy! 🌵

Somehow it’s on the darkest nights that we see the most clearly. 💫 Highly recommend pulling out a blanket tonight and looking up at the stars with our refreshed fall new moon playlist featuring the coolest . It’s the best prescription for that feeling of overwhelm that’s been creeping up with the election (in our opinion). Sharing the link to the playlist in our stories 🌚✨

Celebrating another trip around the sun today, this time as a family of four. 🥹🥰 Though this past year has not been an easy one, the most impactful ones never are. Incredibly grateful for it all—to have a home, supportive friends and family, and to share our love of the desert with all of you that choose to stay at The JTH - Sara🌵🌞 (photos by )

It’s summer, road-trip season, and the new moon—a few of our favorite things. It’s also the perfect time to venture off to new places, so we asked (a musician we’ve been listening to non-stop lately) to curate the perfect desert road-trip playlist. And well, he did it y’all—this is a fun one. His song ‘Rock & Roll’ is featured from his album ‘Posh, Poodle, Krystal and Toe’ (nicknames for his bandmates if you’re wondering). His honest and raw songwriting style surfaces sweet old memories through sound imagery while cruising wide open desert landscapes. Head to the link in our bio to listen. Enjoy! 🌚 🎶✨

Our Story

@thejoshuatreehouse on Instagram The Joshua Tree House is a place to reflect, reset, and create based in the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts.

It all began with a month long cross country road trip. We got in a routine of driving a few hours each morning, and spending the rest of the day hiking a National Park along the route. It was our first time to Joshua Tree, and it felt different than all the rest. Something about this place pulled us in and stayed in our thoughts. Exactly one year later, we found ourselves looking to buy a home in Joshua Tree. As soon as we stepped foot onto the property of the Joshua Tree House we knew it was special, and the perfect place to share with others who needed to reset, reflect, and create.

After sharing this place with others, we found it increasingly difficult to leave the desert and head back to the city ourselves. We eventually made the move to the Mojave desert full-time, a place that at first seems so barren but is truly full of life. In the silence of our new home we have heard feathers shuffle as a bird flies overhead, and in the darkness we have seen what feels like every star. It’s the desert that has guided us to a re-appreciation of the simplest moments, and the kind of happiness that can’t be taken away.
