We haven't posted for some time here at A Puglia to Love, but that doesn't mean there aren't many wonderful things to do and places to explore in Puglia throughout the fall and winter.

Recently, we visited the town of Barletta - just a 40 minute train ride north from Bari. The city is known as the city of the "Challenge" (the 1503 duel between 13 French Knights and 13 Italian riders - the Italians won) and the birthplace of the famous Impressionist painter De Nittis.

When you come, don't miss Barletta's castle - originally built in the 13th century, but redesigned into the present structure by Charles V in the 16th century. A couple of steps away is the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore - the beautiful Romanesque and Gothic style church built between the 12th and 13th c.

Among other interesting sights is the Palace of Marra (16th c.) which hosts a wonderful collection of works by Giuseppe De Nittis (1846-1888), influenced by his time living in Puglia, Naples, Paris and London.

After hitting the main sights, take a relaxing stroll through the streets of this seaside town enjoying the medieval and Norman architecture, as well as some great food and wine!
