The state of Oklahoma is rich in history, and that includes black history. And the town of Boley, is keeping that history alive.

Located in Okfuskee County, Boley is the largest and most well known of the more than 50 identifiable All-Black towns in Oklahoma and one of only 13 historical sites still existing today. The town was founded in 1903 and incorporated in 1905.

But what the town is most known for is the rodeo. Since 1903, the town of Boley has hosted the nation's first African American rodeo.

The Boley Rodeo celebrates the historical significance of the many all-black towns established by African Americans who migrated from the South to northern and western communities after slavery was abolished.

Step back in time in Ponca City with a trip to the historic Poncan Theatre.

The Poncan Theatre was built in 1927 by the Boller Brothers. Boasting Spanish Colonial Revival Architecture, the theatre is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a contributing property of the Downtown Ponca City Historic District.

Visitors will be transported back to a time of song and dance, of black and white movies and of hope, and awe and wonder. The Poncan Theatre has hosted entertainers since 1927 and was then, and still is the jewel of downtown Ponca City.
