I'm Canadian.
I love East Tennessee.
Her mountains are calling me.
What's East Tennessee like?
She's Dolly Parton.
When considering moving from the United States or not visiting until politicians change -- remember that Dolly Parton is in the United States too.
Thank you Dolly.

Here's a rewritten version for Instagram:

✨ A recent chat with a friend reminded me that many people avoid creative workshops because they don’t see themselves as “artists.” Some think it might be too difficult. I get it! So, I decided to step out of *my* comfort zone and signed up for a workshop at 🎨

This season and into 2025, I’m on a mission to fill my creative classes and workshops with people who wouldn’t normally sign up. 💪 I want to show everyone that creativity isn’t just about making something perfect—it’s about the joy of learning something new, the history behind it, and how it benefits both physical and mental health. 🧠💚

If you’ve ever thought a creative class wasn’t for you, this is your chance! 💫

👉 Please share this post and help me spread the word! Let’s see how many non-artists we can get into my workshops this season! VAM Workshops link in my bio 🔗

Road trip today to visit my mum, Patsy. It's been a whole year since I've seen her. A 5-hour drive ahead with a few crafty podcasts queued up on my phone, and I've packed light—just one small sewing project. Our relationship hasn't always been easy, but when her mother, Gracey, passed away, Patsy said something that stuck with me: “Whatever you do, make peace with your parents before they die. I didn’t.” It took me 15 years to understand that, and in time, we found peace. We both have mental health issues that needed addressing. We’ve drawn some lines and navigated our ups and downs, but we’re in a good place now.

Lately, I’ve noticed her health slipping, and I want to spend a couple of days giving her some joy—taking her out to a nice meal and hitting some thrift stores. I’m grateful to have foreseen the deaths of people I love and the opportunity to say goodbye to my father, my in-laws, and my daughter, with peace and love. Patsy is the last of her generation, and while that’s part of the circle of life, it doesn’t feel sad—it feels like time to say good-bye.

Having lost my brother, father, and my daughter Emily, I’ve learned the value of facing death with an open heart. It’s not the most important thing in life, but being ready for it when it comes has brought me peace. So, off I go on this solo drive—time to sing my heart out, dive into some great podcasts, and reflect on all I’m grateful for.

As retirement age approaches .....

I’m looking forward to retirement the same way I looked forward to being 20 when I was 13. My retirement will be non-traditional. I won’t stop working, I’ll just adjust it for my age and abilities. ADHD is my super power, so I’ll likely still have several things on the go. I am looking more forward to my husband’s retirement. He plans to stop working completely. (Muggle). That means we can hit the road for a several-month road trip. I’m already researching. I think camping across Canada and the U.S. will be fun. What do you think about your retirement? XOXO Sandra
