"The creator Raven wanted to remind the Kitasoo Xai'xais Peoples of a time when this land was covered in ice, so he decided to turn one in ten black bears white. The white bear reminds us to be thankful for the lush and bountiful land of today."
The Spirit Bear (Mooksgm'ol - Hásl̩x̌λi ƛ́á) is one of the rarest animals in the world, with current population estimates from 50 to 150 bears. Kitasoo Xai’xais Traditional Territory is home to the largest proportion of the Spirit Bear population and the only Spirit Bear Conservancy. Sightings of the Spirit Bear in this wild landscape vary, but the search is as much a part of the experience as a sighting!

A short traditional story told by our very own Troy Robinson
Welcome to our Territory - Grizzly bears are the gardeners of the rainforest. With their long claws, they graze for roots and dig for salmon eggs, churning the soil. Kitasoo/Xai’xais proudly BANNED grizzly bear trophy hunting in our territory years ago, long before the provincial ban.
Welcome to our territory, we are the stewards and keepers of our land.

Welcome to our Territory. Join us as we celebrate the vast territory of the Kitasoo/Xai’xais accompanied by a traditional song performed by local singers, led by our assistant manager Roxanne Robinson.
As you roam this land, you will find many waterfalls. An indicator of abundant rainfall and a healthy ecosystem. The more rain, the more trickling falls you will see pouring over the granite rocks and volcanic mountains. Stay tuned for more as we celebrate one of the wildest places on the planet.

Animal Tracks!
You know the tracks are fresh when you find them in a sand because they are highly susceptible to wind and rain.
