La Scala is a world renowned opera house. The premiers of many of Verdi and Bellini’s best works are set there. In 1776 the empress Maria Theresia, which was at the same time a duchess of Milan, ordered the construction of a new opera house because the old one, Theatro Reggio, was destroyed due to a fire. Chief architect was Guiseppe Piermarini. The opera was officially opened on 3 August 1778.

Although Venice is the pearl of Veneto region, there are other towns which should not be underestimated. Padua is one of them. Founded more than 3,000 years ago along the River Brenta, today it is a modern and cosmopolitan city and rather famous for its university and for the countless masterpieces of art scattered throughout the city. Verona is a city where many remains from Roman times can be seen. A significant number of monuments from antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance have been preserved. The Trevi Fountain is one of Rome's most popular tourist attractions. In 1732 Pope Clement XII commissioned Niccolò Salvi to build the impressive fountain. However, the monument was conceived about a century earlier, when in 1629 Jean Lorenzo Bernini prepared his sketches at the request of another pope - Urban VIII. After the death of Pope Urban, the project was abandoned. Di Trevi was finally completed in 1762. by Giuseppe Panini. Its name derives from the old name of the area – Trebium.
