Journey behind the scenes of event planning with Engel and Amanda. Their mission is to buy fabric from Jimmy Aboud during The Great July Sale.
They went to sleep with a plan to leave at 9am the next day. But Engel, ever the early riser, was already stirring by 5:15am. Amanda recognised his silhouette against the morning light revealing his thinking posture. Without missing a beat, he said to her, "Good morning, I think we should get ready to leave earlier."
Amanda, unfazed by the early start, embraced the change. This was an adventure, after all, and she trusted Engel's lead. They reached Port of Spain by 7:30am, one hour before the store's opening time. To pass the time, they sought refuge in a nearby Starbucks. Here, they found the perfect blend of caffeine and conversation.
As Engel took his espresso shot, he spotted a familiar face - Jarrod, an authority in sales, wearing a conspicuous yellow t-shirt, his signature. Simply put, the red man in the bright yellow t-shirt. Having not met since 2019, the two took this chance to catch up. Jarrod showed a keen interest in the book tied to the unveiling event of - "Personal Development with a Caribbean Flavour."
After this meeting, they headed to the textile king. Finding a parking spot close to their destination, thanks to Engel's quick thinking, they soon found themselves in the heart of the city. Upon entering Jimmy Aboud's store, they were welcomed by the staff. The friendly and efficient team guided them through the fabric arrays. Engel was in the middle of a unique conversation in the store. An older female employee was giving relationship advice to a younger male colleague. The woman's wisdom, peppered with years of experience, resonated with Engel. He chimed in, contributing his perspective, further enriching the exchange.
With the helpful staff's assistance, Amanda, in her element, was quickly caught up in the Great July Sale. But unlike any other time, she and Engel were out of the store in what seemed like twelve minutes, a personal record for them! The mission was a resounding success. They reflected on the morning's events as they returned home under the glowing mid-morning sun. Their day wasn't over yet, though.
They went straight to their tailor, whose surprised expression at their early return quickly became a professional focus as he took their measurements. Next, they visited Clinton Mohan, affectionately known as Uncle Tone, to drop off event tickets. Some time was invested there, as they were caught in the usual meaningful conversations that spring naturally in his presence.
To end a productive day, they extended their helpful hands to a friend. Being in her company felt natural and unforced, like slipping into a favourite pair of shoes. These relationships, born out of shared experiences and mutual respect, added warmth and richness to their lives. Help was offered without expecting anything in return. Still, they were pleasantly surprised with a cheesecake - a sweet finish to their day!
Engel and Amanda's day was a lesson in adaptability, networking, selflessness, and efficiency. However, the most profound takeaway was the heartwarming ease and comfort they found in the company of their close friends. Whether it was catching up with Jarrod, enjoying the wisdom of an older employee, or sharing meaningful conversations with Clinton, the importance of maintaining and cherishing relationships was woven throughout their day.
Thank you to the ticket supporters of the day! Uncle Tone and the Atwells.
