Mountain Monks The Mountain Monks subdivision at McGaffey, New Mexico - future home of the Benedictines from Clear What is “Mountain Monks” all about? Who are these Monks? Cost?

Put simply: helping an order of Benedictine monks found a new monastery in northwestern New Mexico and building a Catholic community around the monastery in which to raise families, vacation in the summer, or retire in the future. The Benedictine Monks of Our Lady of Clear Creek Abbey, Oklahoma, are themselves an offshoot of the Benedictine monks at Fontgombault Abbey in France. In the 1970s and 1

980s, a number of Americans joined the French Abbey and it quickly reached its capacity. Consequently, the Abbey in Clear Creek, OK was founded and now, it too, is nearing its capacity. The monastery in New Mexico will initially be structured as a Priory and, initially, consist of 6 monks sent from Oklahoma until it grows to self-sustainability and, if it be God’s Will, becomes an independent abbey. How can I be a part of this? Your prayers for the success of the new monastery are most important. But if you want to join the community physically, you can do that too! Parcels of land near the monastery are available for purchase and a portion of their cost will help underwrite a supplemental donation of land to the Monks which they need to ensure completion of the project. Tell me more. An initial donation of 60 acres of land made possible construction of a residence for the monks and plans are being made to build a 100-year wooden church. But in order to ensure success of the priory and completion of the first church and to provide the resources for a permanent 1,000-year stone church, the monks need an additional 40 acres of land. Catholics, families, friends of the monks or others interested in owning a piece property near the budding monastery can invest in their own land and help underwrite the donation of the final 40 acres that the Monks need. When will the next opportunity to buy land come about? It won’t! The tract of land where the Monastery is to be is surrounded on three sides by the Cibola National Forest. Private land in the area is limited and this tract represents the last piece of land available for purchase by the public. When Will Building of the Monastery Commence? It already has! An initial residence for the monks is nearly complete. A temporary Chapel has been built where the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is celebrated. The monks of Clear Creek Abbey come out several times a year to work on the continued development of the new Monastery. Where Exactly is This Development Located? As mentioned above, monastery is being developed in northwestern New Mexico, in the heart of the Cibola National Forest. The land is about 2 hours west of Albuquerque and half-an-hour east of Gallup, NM, affectionately known as “The Adventure Capital of New Mexico”.about Access to the land is conveniently located about 20 minutes off of Interstate 40. The Cibola National Forest itself is an expansive 1.6 million acre preserve, replete with ponderosa pines, alternating terrain, and wildlife; a perfect setting to experience and contemplate the Glory of God through His magnificent creation. How big are the Parcels and hw many are available? Each parcel is 3-4 acres. Some adjoin each other and could be purchased together to form a large tract. There are only 10 still available
How Much Are the Lots? Premium lots are listed at $49,000 the rest of the lots are listed staring at $44,000. Discounts are available for cash purchases and multiple lot purchases. Is Financing Available? If So, Terms? Duration? Seller financing is available with minimum $500.00 down for 15 years at 6%. There is no penalty for prepayment. How close are we to completing the project and ensuring the Monks get all the land they need? Very close. The initial donation of 60 acres has already been made. And already, buyers have stepped forward to purchase almost half the land that will underwrite the second donation. That’s why there are only 10 parcels left. Who can I contact for more information?
