The annual "Wall of Death" is firmly in place off the South West coast of Ireland.

How can we expect our stocks to be sustainable and provide a future for our coastal communities when we allow this level of exploitation of our natural resource by foreign fleets?

This concentrated effort by Trawlers, Gillnetters and Longliners prevents a large number of fish species migrating inshore to their traditional breeding grounds and nursery areas resulting in the ongoing demise of Ireland's greatest natural resource.

The yearly free for all bonanza provides no benefit to Ireland or our coastal communities and will only cease when we have government willing to fight for our future!

Was out on the lake today and I got a visit from this little fella, but it reminded me of the dangers of weils disease which is contacted from the urine of infected rats.

Rats are incontinent and urinate as they run around and sometimes across angling equipment, while at water it's safe today you are not far from a rat and need to be very mindful of the dangers. All anglers should read up on it.

📣We are reminding members of the public not to park on slipways and piers or not to leave boats unattended on the landing berth.

🚑These areas are vital to our rescue services, who need the access to transport casualties in case of emergency.

Advice from one of our Cromer RNLI Crew

Schools Out!! And the weather is hotting up. This is a great bit of advice.

Be very careful when you go to the beach. Before you go in, watch the sea. If you see a space between the waves, do not enter. It's a riptide, and you will be pulled back in. Please tell your family and friends. This can save lives. If you see anyone in danger ring 999 and ask for COASTGUARD!

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE
PLEASE READ & SHARE (it could save your life)

Hi Guys just want a moment of your time to stress the importance of water safety. The main reason we add the buoyancy aid & the dry bags in our kayak package is they are the most important things you need when on the water. A lot more people are going to be on the water this year with little or no experience. The water can chew you up and spit you out in a matter of seconds if you are not prepared right.
Over the last couple of weeks we have been contacted too many times from people in our local area to retrieve their kayaks from the river. They are very lucky to be coming out of the water alive. Do not go down the river blind. Please ask for any knowledge of the stretch of river you plan on doing. Preparing is key to a safe paddle

Ourselves & the RNLI safety officers have been in contact, and they have given us some brochures that are very helpful.
We hope to get enough of brochures in time to send with each kayak.
You can always contact your local RNLI for information on waterways and safety. They are always willing to help

Here's a few pointers to keep yourself safe:

If you are travelling in groups down the river make sure to keep your distance from your fellow kayaker. The river will show you no mercy.

If you're inexperienced, travel at the rear of the pack & watch your fellow kayakers movements in the water.

Pay attention to your surroundings & flow of the water at all times. Split second everything can change.

Always wear buoyancy aid/life jacket even those people who think they are great swimmers, an under current will drag you under with no return.

Wear a wetsuit/bootys/ gloves
The shock of cold water is enough to lose all control.

Wear a helmet
You can easily be knocked unconscious by rocks / over hanging trees or with a fellow kayakers paddle.

Let somebody know what time you are leaving & time you will be back

Keep your phone with you at all times & keep it in a dry bag.
If any situation occurs you will need to be able to call for help

Put your name & reflectors on your kayak so it can be easily identified

Bring rope/ throw bag
To pull you or someone else out of a sticky situation

Get the appropriate training
Knowledge & preparation are key

Check the weather windy conditions can very dangerous

Check your equipment regularly

Check the water ways

Check tides

Dont go after major flooding

Dont go on your own

Do not grab trees when passing or your kayak will go from under you and you'll end up in the water

Safety is your own responsibility. Do not have the guards or the search and rescue team knock on your mother or fathers door!

Never underestimate the water, it has been here long before you & will be here long after you're gone.

Be safe out there folks ✌💦🛶
