Colombia reaffirms itself as the #𝟏 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 by observing and counting 𝟏,𝟒𝟎𝟑 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 in a single day, during . A super special date in which we observed 139 species in Rio Blanco Reserve, in Manizales, Colombia.
Many thanks to all the staff of the reserve, to the Asociación Caldense de Ornitología, to the Semillero de Ornitología of Universidad de Caldas, and to all participants for sharing a full day of good energy and spectacular birds from our high Andean forests.
Here you can take a look at some of the coolest and most important species we observed and photographed during this October Big Day 2024.

Ocellated Tapaculo (Acropternis orthonyx) is one of our main targets species during our bird photography and bird watching tours in Colombia. It's one of those mythical birds of the tropical Andes only found between 2,200 and 3,200 masl, literally a ghost of nature that you can hear inside the cloud forest but can hardly see. A very special winged jewel that warms hearts of all bird and nature lovers.

In Colombia, two active Harpy Eagle nests have been detected so far near the Serranía de la Macarena, and this time, we visited the Harpy Eagle Reserve in Vista Hermosa, Meta. A three-day visit that left us completely pleased from the beginning, as we were able to observe and photograph not only the five-month-old female chick, but also the male, bringing a juicy Colombian Red Howler Monkey (Alouatta seniculus) to feed its young, as well as large branches and sticks to fix and improve the nest. Even, as if that were not enough, we observed how the spectacular female, larger and more imposing than the male, came to spend the night with her chick and also enjoy the abundant dinner that her partner hunted for them. Definitely, a dream spectacle to be able to observe and photograph, in its natural habitat, what is considered the most powerful bird of prey in the world, which, in addition, is vulnerable to extinction due to its loss of habitat, persecution and hunting.
We hope that this good news reaches the ears of as many nature lovers as possible, and that through ecotourism, conservation actions and initiatives are increased for the care and protection of this important and iconic species.

What a great birding week along the eastern Andes of 🇨🇴 Colombia 🇨🇴 with our friend Mark Broos from the 🇳🇱 Netherlands 🇳🇱
More than 200 bird species including endemics like Green-bearded Helmetcrest, Bogota Rail, Apolinar’s Wren, Boyaca Antpitta, Silvery-throated Spinetail, Indigo-capped Hummingbird, Velvet-fronted Euphonia 💥💥💥💥, and specialties like Golden-bellied and Blue-throated Starfrontlet, Bronze-tailed Thornbill, Pale-bellied Tapaculo, Rufous-browed Conebill, Noble Snipe, Red-rumped Bush Tyrant, Spot-flanked Gallinule, Andean Siskins and many many more made us one of the most crazy and productive birding weeks of this 2023 !!!! 🙌🙌
But probably the most exiting moment was the Chestnut-crowned Antpitta moment, what a show this forest ghost gave us !!! when it came from behind us at the top of Monserrate Mountain 🤩🤩.

Here you can take a look at some of the most notable sightings of this super cool birding tour !!!
