(8)

A singular meeting of owners and top representatives from small, independent hotels and boats from Latin America and the Caribbean with some of the best travel designers in the world. And a remarkable experience for learning about, sharing and staying up to date on the challenges and trends in the industry. The smallest travel event on Earth is proudly the one that creates the biggest connections: the ones that really matter.

💡 The Atacama Desert in Chile is celebrated as one of the world’s top stargazing destinations, yet many places across the globe also offer magical opportunities for this activity to thrive in ways that benefit both local communities and the environment.

In his REMOTE Talk, "Keeping the Skies Dark for Beyond Astro Tourism," professional astronomer and award-winning astrophotographer Yuri Beletsky shared inspiring insights into the rise of astro tourism. This global trend invites us to explore the universe and witness rare celestial events in some of Earth’s most breathtaking settings. But, as with many natural experiences, stargazing faces growing threats from human impact. How can we protect our skies to ensure we continue to marvel at this beauty for generations to come?

🏡 We’re thrilled to welcome The Family Coppola Hideaways @‌thefamilycoppolahideaways, a collection of intimate hotels curated by Francis Ford Coppola, to our community as Exhibitors in REMOTE Immersion Antigua next May. These remarkable and exclusive lodges are designed to celebrate local culture, nature, adventure, comfort and responsible tourism:

〰 Blancaneaux Lodge Mountain, Pine Ridge – Belize @‌blancaneauxlodge: A 20-room luxury hideaway where waterfalls tumble into turquoise pools above the jungle canopy. Located in the 107,000-acre Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve in western Belize’s Cayo District, Blancaneaux Lodge Mountain is surrounded by fast-flowing rivers and rare or endangered species of flora and fauna.

〰 Turtle Inn, Placencia – Belize @‌turtleinn: Nestled along the Caribbean coastline, this serene seafront escape enchants guests with its thatched villas adorned in handcrafted Balinese furnishings, all cooled naturally by refreshing sea breezes. Just a short bike ride or stroll away, the charming fishing village of Placencia awaits with its artisan shops and inviting dining spots.

〰 La Lancha, Lake Peten Itza – Guatemala @‌lalanchavillage: Perched in the lush rainforest overlooking the shores of Lago Petén Itzá, La Lancha is a charming 10-room lodge, adorned with handpicked Guatemalan furniture, textiles, and carvings chosen by the Coppola family. Just a short distance away lies Tikal, the heart of Maya spirituality, where over 3,000 ancient structures stand.

During the REMOTE Immersion Puyehue, we gathered with REMOTERs to create a tribute honoring Clark Kotula’s vibrant energy and brilliance, so deeply missed at this and future events. In the book and short video Dear Clark, we compiled heartfelt testimonies from the REMOTE Community. The book was presented to his partner, Turney Maurer, who will also deliver it to Clark’s wife, Jacqui, and his sons, Blake and Carter.

In a touching moment, our speaker, Sebastián Paoa, vice-president of the Easter Island Chamber of Tourism, presented Clark’s family with a Moai statue brought directly from Rapa Nui. This sacred statue symbolizes the ancestral spirit of those who have passed but continue to watch over and protect their loved ones. The Moai was also delivered, with the heartfelt affection of the REMOTE family, to Clark's family.

As we express in the book:

“How we miss you!
But we learned and experienced so much with you that we have no doubt your legacy will live on within each one of your friends, customers, partners and the entire REMOTE community.
We will do everything we can to ensure that REMOTE continues to create, inspire, support and develop careful tourism in Latin America, keeping alive our memories of you and everything we did together.
We love you!”

🌿 We’re excited to share the outcomes of our Sustainability Strategy for REMOTE Immersion Puyehue 2024. Developed by Regenera NGO for Cuenca 2023, this strategy draws inspiration from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council Criteria and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, adapted specifically for Puyehue.

This year, we collaborated closely with six local providers and our incredible host, Hotel Termas de Puyehue , through a sustainability consulting process involving ongoing discussions and contributions that extend beyond the event. As a result, we recommended initiatives to reduce waste, expand partnerships with local suppliers, foster collaboration, and enhance communication around sustainability efforts.

Through measures to reduce plastic waste, we estimate that we prevented the use of over 5,200 plastic bottles in just three and a half days.

Partnering with Fundación Reforestemos , we offset 64 tons of greenhouse gas emissions generated by the event and will plant 213 trees to support reforestation projects with rural landowners on Chiloé Island in Chile’s Lake District.

The fourth edition of our REMOTE Legacy, which brings inspiring free talks on responsible tourism to local communities, gathered around 80 participants in Entre Lagos.

We were also thrilled to introduce the REMOTE Mentorship, an initiative offering guidance and insights to local entrepreneurs on business and international tourism. These initiatives are just some of the ways we strive to give back to the incredible destinations that warmly welcome us.

Thank you to all REMOTERS, friends, and partners who have joined us on this journey!

🎤 We inaugurated our REMOTE Talks & Seeds last night with a series of inspiring presentations from both guest speakers and members of the REMOTE Community!

Our dear friend Olivier Dufeau from Nahbu Travel, Colombia (), shared valuable insights on “How to Partner with Your Competitor – and Succeed.” He was followed by the brilliant Pia Vergara from Estancia and Fundación Cerro Guido, Chile (.cerroguido), who captivated us with her talk on “Ranching with the Wild: Conservation through Coexistence.”
