Pictou Island, halfway across the Northumberland Strait between Nova Scotia and PEI, offers a secluded but easily accessible place to relax and enjoy nature. Surrounded by lobsters and seals the island is home to a blue heron colony, eagles, owls, coyotes, rabbits and more. Our wooden tents provide a convenient base within walking distance to the wharf and the island's only store. While the island

is predominately privately owned guests are welcome to explore the shoreline, the surrounding woods, the vineyard, and the public park/beach at the east end. All visitors have access to wifi at the Pictou Island Community Centre CAP site.

We know Lorne Matheson from Pictou Island Wooden Tents ... but do we know how this guy from Toronto came to call Pictou Island home? Daily emails to family and friends in 1999 are now a book weaving a fascinating tale of four months rediscovering roots and relatives, the island and the Maritimes, and what it means to build and be home. All Pictou Islanders, near and far, current and past, religious or not, can be super proud of the much needed renovations being done to our iconic church building by Rob Boudreau, and his crew of Island residents. Many thanks to Bonnie Rankin and Anna Leblanc for preparing the grant application and to past-MLA Karla MacFarlane for helping shepherd the project through the bureaucracy!

Anyone who ever ventured in to see the herons will understand the dismay of finally finding our sign that Fiona somehow left in place. The scary power of nature!

Last time out, Britt hosted our first gender balanced retreat - this time it was language balanced - three English and three French yogis! Just two more retreats and we're done for 2024. Still a tent left for Labour Day with Camilla!

Last night Dierdre Gallagher became our seventh recipient of a free weekend in the Tents as a reward for attending five yoga retreats. Next year seven of this week's attendees plan to join her in that illustrious club!
