Wonderful Interfaith Cooperation!

Rabbi Barbara and Sinagoga Ner Tamid del Sud were honored to have the newly installed bishop of Lamezia Terme, Monsignor Giuseppe Schillaci visit the synagogue as part of his scheduled trip to Serrastretta. Thanks to Don Antonio Costantino and Mayor Felice Molinaro, the new bishop was presented to a standing room only crowd of parish congregants, all of whom enjoyed Bishop Schillaci's thoughtful lesson. Following his presentation, the Bishop asked to visit Sinagoga Ner Tamd del Sud where he stood with Rabbi Barbara as she read from the Torah scroll. Rabbi Barbara was honored to offer the Kohanim Blessing to Bishop Schillaci, noting that this blessing is among many rituals shared by Christians and Jews."Benvenuto, Vescovo!" The Jewish community looks forward to a special relationship as we work together for the spiritual health of Calabrians.

Home again, the research trip in Italy was great! Found key information at the Vatican Secret Archives for my next book on Prisoner of War Camps Across Italy. Also extended a lot of client lines from Sicily to Fanano. Now planning the trip to speak in August in Seattle at the International Association of Jewish Genealogists (www.iajgs2016.org) on the Jewish Heritage of a Catholic Sicilian Family, so excited!!
